I think social media and tech replaced hobbies
I legit haven't met anyone with a hobby since 2014. I remember early 2015 talking to some dude and he was talking about reddit and ever since then I legit haven't met anyone thar mentioned a hobby. I think social media and tech replaced them. Everything now is just watching tv shows or doing something for the gram/twitch/tik tok or whatever apps are out now

Made a thread about this a while ago. Nothing changed with social media. Most people were always vain, attention/validation seeking. Now they finally got a tool to fully express it.

Yeah basically this is why I have been trying to disconnect lately. The less you're on the internet, the more you can connect with reality. The internet has become it's own little world under the web 2.0 corporate consolidation.

the internet/ tech was def. like a revolution.
the thing is, i think its a tad smarter revolution, as though they figured how to further extend their power. a lot of these things are disguised as "convenience" but really give up their personal autonomy.
the industrial revolution saw textiles, steam engine, electricity, oil, steel, etc., etc. but one pertinent point to that is i think it remained within national borders. at least moreso. those things are so foundational to society. e.g. every building using steel, every car needing oil, etc., etc. that's what our society is based on
the tech revolution upped that imo. the reach is global. ********, google, amazon, etc., etc. all have massive underwater cable distribution. your news apps sending you notis seems like its to keep you up to date. no, its to get you ingrained on your phone - to hopefully click on their website, another article; to view another advertisement, etc., etc.
like i said all of this chit is cleverly disguised as ease and convenience, etc., etc. but really its increasing their power at the expense of your individual freedom and rights
i really think people dont understand how deep this is. they have a STRANGLEHOLD on society now. that's what it was designed for. and they keep pushing it further

Perfect example is lifting culture. It used to be a legit journey for most people if they were able to stick to it (we are talking years and years to achieve a good physique), now you just take some apple sauce and become an influencer or go to the gym to film tik toks. But it has taken over the hobby of bodybuilding. 90% of the people in the gym are not taking it serious they are doing it to post on social media. Even if it's a 2 plate deadlift.
