I haven't played a COD on a console since like 2009 MW2.

I mean this was obvious from jump street.

BRB I hate a billion dollars in revenue.

I was called a coper for stating this when the ABK deal was announced.

This.

They aren't paying 70B to keep it multiplatform forever.

It starts off with Xbox version getting additional content and performing better on their system, forcing some to convert. Then it goes on to putting it free on gamepass while sonycels must pay 70, forcing many to convert.

Finally, it's pulled entirely and put as a gamepass exclusive.

"We would wish all Sony players to experience our game but Sony refuses its fanbase by denying gamepass on their home consoles"

Checkmated.

Regulators:

Xboxers want a "win" so bad that they'll ignore the long term ramifications of further mega-corp consolidation.

The odd thing is howonlyCall of Duty is singled out to be the point of contention by everyone (including Sony), when it's not like Microsoft is just buying the rights to Call of Duty. The pending acquisition is regarding an entire publisher conglomerate of Activision, Blizzard, King, andMajor League Gaming (MLG), which put together should be sounding alarms.

None of these companies have our best interests at heart, and these types of acquisitions go far beyond some petty fanboy wars or whatever puerile bullshiit. Microsoft in particular is already in an entirely different league than most companies on the planet before you even factor in video games, and allowing them of anyone to continue the trend of unmitigated, hand-waved buyouts is only setting more dangerous precedents. Enough large mergers were allowed under nothing more than good intentions, only for the companies to turn around and grow even more anti-consumer once regulators were off their backs and consumers had fewer options left on the table. Point being that it's much harder to reign in these companies once the deals have gone through when many should have never been allowed in the first place.

like i've always been saying they will say whatever it takes for the deal to go through and theres a reason why sony is fighting for it to be denied..

you got to be delusional to think microsoft won't do it 2-3 years after deal is accepted. they will be like COD only available on gamepass now, but sony can have it they just got to allow gamepass on their consoles (which they know sony won't do) and if sony does its a win-win for microsoft.

True. Everyone knows this behemoth of a company is actually a giant teddy and only got its hands into the gaming industry for the fans. And maybe to make a little money too, but not much of course

Microsoft is good people, they are just buying up companies that have almost as much networth as the whole of Sony just to give power to the gamers.

More likely they're in it for the money. Fuk the gamers, but MS doesn't currently make much money on hardware sales. Selling COD on Playstation is basically a billion dollars in revenue (including in-game purchases) that won't be recreated if they make the game exclusive. They'll get a small return sure, maybe 40% of the Playstation audience (and that's generous) but they won't get anywhere near 100% of that user base. It's financially irresponsible, and the shareholders only care about those numbers. They don't give a chit if they're selling a couple million more consoles, they want that big money.

Come on, flex that brain of yours a little. Why spend 80B for no reason, if market dominance isn't your goal? Not only are they getting COD, they're getting all of Blizzard's titles as well as their massive mobile gaming platform. On top of Bethesda. They have the pockets to slowly squeeze Sony out and by removing COD from Playstation that will be a death blow to Sony.

In the meantime, ActiBlizz is still making boatloads of money for MS and even if they somehow lose money in the beginning they can easily weather the storm if that means getting rid of their only real rival. Once Sony is gone they have a monopoly on gaming.

Sony would either have to quit the console market or bend the knee and allow gamepass on Playstation which was MS's goal all along.

Sony HATES the thought of people being allowed to play COD without having to buy it for $70.

But apparently they're looking out for the consumers best interests, just LMAO.

I would say to flex that brain of yours but it's obviously deflated.

COD is not a console seller. Keeping it multiplat maximizes the profit.
As you said (this takes some thinking) they now own the ENTIRE activision/blizzard/king IP library. They can bring back any previous titles and any new IP and make those console exclusives. The reason people buy Playstations is for the exclusives, not for Call of Duty. The reason people will buy Xboxes will be for exclusives, not for Call of Duty.

Keeping Call of Duty on all platforms maximizes your return from the acquisition while allowing you to build your fanbase on the backs of new exclusive titles.

It's good business.

Dude cod is the biggest selling franchise on Playstation and tops the charts every year for that console. Let's examine what happens to microsoft if they make COD a gamepass exclusive.

First off, they still make a ton of money. Now you'll say sure, but they can make even more if they put it on Playstation right? I agree but that's short term thinking.

Here's a better alternative you can do if you have more money than God. MS is so filthy rich they can afford to make less on COD. Remember they also have a massive number of Actiblizz titles to compensate anyway.

And here's the reason for all of this. Sony cannot deal with such a blow. They will bleed customers while MS squeezes them. MS will release new Bethesda, Activision and Blizzard games to increase the pressure even more.

Eventually they fold and MS is on top. Most people now buy MS consoles and gamepass is everywhere. The 20 billion they lost by excluding COD from playstion was pocket change to them. Now they monopolize the market and they make 10 x that amount in a few years.

You're lacking the critical skills to see the big picture here. Your brain sees quick money and gets excited but this is why MS hires smart people to strategize because hundreds of billions can be made by gaining market dominance.

microsoft's goal is gamepass on sony and nintendo consoles.

how they get there, i don't know, but buying as many franchises especially a big one like activision/blizzard is a huge step towards that.

Of course it's not going to leave PlayStation.

It will however be developed for the xbox series X and ported to ps5, possibly delayed and with exclusive content on the xbox.

No idea why some of you keep pushing the harebrained idea that CoD will be kept from Playstation and that MS will put out exclusives and whatnot. The name of the game is pushing microtransactions, everything else is just peanuts.

MS isn't going to cut off Sony's nose just to spite their own face and making a move like that wouldn't accomplish anything besides cutting themselves off from hundreds of millions in pure profit because...just because, ok?

No idea why some of you keep pushing the harebrained idea that CoD will be kept from Playstation and that MS will put out exclusives and whatnot. The name of the game is pushing microtransactions, everything else is just peanuts.

MS isn't going to cut off Sony's nose just to spite their own face and making a move like that wouldn't accomplish anything besides cutting themselves off from hundreds of millions in pure profit because...just because, ok?
As a business person I can explain. MS are so rich they don't need to sell COD to Playstation users. That's pennies to them. What MS wants is to sell ALL its games to Playstation users. How? By eliminating Sony and taking all its customers.

They do this buy taking all the big 3rd party games away, and they can use their infinitely deep pockets to do so. MS knows they can chill and make millions today, but by killing their competition today they can make billions tomorrow.

Yep. That's literally the point of them spending tens of billions to buy up huge 3rd party companies and why Sony is fighting them tooth and nail to stop it from happening.

Pea brains like BraneyGumble just can't see the bigger picture at all and have no idea why Sony is in panic mode.

Imagine some random pleb who knows nothing telling Sony they should just relax and not worry about it. Surely MS wouldn't want to destroy you and take all your customers
