Specialty welders can make ridiculous money even above ground, I've seen skilled welders with rigs charging $100/hr (but they supply their own equipment). If you can weld stainless or exotics like duplex and monel, bump it up to $120/hr.
Caveat is that these jobs are hazardous in various ways, hard on the body, etc

the misc thinks highschool drop outs that do roofing in the summer is a "trades person"
licensed trades people have to do x amount of apprenticeship hours (my trade was 9000), than they can write their red seal test and become licensed
apprentices make between 20 - 40 an hour depending where they work and their current level. But once you are licensed you are making minimum 40 dollars an hour

meanwhile an apprenticeship if you can get into one pays money out of their pocket and you can go debtless. i find it mind boggling that
brb go into debt and pay x amount (-50k)
brb don't go into debt for school, get paid at the same time and never go into debt. possibly +200k in the same time period. maybe more, maybe less.
that's a lot of catching up to do even with a plush job while the debts accruing interest
which one to choose?
i have to agree a lot of guys in the trades aren't educated but its pretty crazy how versatile most trades are and or how "skilled" they are.
there's no way you're stepping onto a job site in a skilled position like electrician and know whats going on

I have a lot of tradie people in my life (since I'm addicted to Papsi, hoogers, crime) and I know what it can be like.
Short term jobs
Instability
Body breaking
Working with mongs
I respect it, but its tough hard honest work and they really do earn that pay. Wish I could say the same about my bish ex wife, she lives on my alimony and spends it on hs kids. It makes me sick and I've fkin HAD it.

Highly disagree.
If you're gonna be a cog in the machine, you might as well do as least as possible while making as much as possible.
Tradesmen are doing real work for 8 hours 5 days a week. They can't slack whatsoever. Meanwhile an officecel does literally nothing but check emails every 30 minutes.

just curious. lets say you have someone who sits on the couch all day. only does that. like literally does nothing else
how would he feel?
then you have someone who works out.. how does he feel?
i think most people being honest would say that the guy working out will prob have multiple positive factors over the guy doing nothing
so what did we learn here?
is doing nothing conducive to happiness?
or is doing something conducive to happiness?
now, i know the argument is gonna be like.. "well, you can still do other stuff while not on the job"
but, again.. what did we learn here?
is doing stuff conducive to happiness or is doing nothing?
so then doing more stuff (physically) is prob better for happiness, no?
and also, doing nothing (or even less) is a negative

Linework is alot more dangerous because most of the time you work on.live conductors and one screw up can end your life or burn you to the point to where you don't want to live anymore.
There was an accident at the company that i work for not that long ago, a guy grabbed an antenna on a pole and put his back on a live conductor, he didn't have his gloves on, the system saw it as load and didn't relay, it kept pumping through his arms. They amputated both of.his arms at the shoulder. He is pretty much fuked for the rest of his.life.

i agree about the danger with higher voltage but do you realize most lethal accidents actually happen at lower voltage? because of the carelessness usually
im not totally positive about all the intricacies of a transformer but my understanding of lineman is transmission line carrying higher voltage. then going to a transformer where its typically stepped down but sometimes up
so youve basically got the power lines and transformers as most day to day tasks
i mean chit an electrician has codes on devices and wires and infrastucture, building infrastructure, underground pipes or wiring, wiring devices or complicated circuit, relays, bending conduit precisely, etc. ,etc.
there's a reason why i didn't list chit out initially; too much to list

I argued with electricians before about electrical theory. Just not that long ago I had a scheduled drop for a solar panel install. They ran parallel 500 from the CT panel to the main disconnect. About a 15 foot run if not less. The electrician was trying to tell me that the lenght of the wire had to be precisely cut and had to be the same if not the shorter one would carry all the load. I was like yea ok bro.
I don't work transmission anymore that belongs to a separate department. I run a trouble truck, and do all the outages.
As far as following code, the utility writes specs and we have to follow them.
The electrical system is alot more complex then most people realize. Especially nowadays with all the distribution automation devices.

As far as following code, the utility writes specs and we have to follow them.
The electrical system is alot more complex then most people realize. Especially nowadays with all the distribution automation devices.

I'm not saying electrical work is easy but alot of electricians are just pipe benders and that's pretty much all that they know how to do.
it's weird man... i'd say a lot of tradies don't like school. but honestly it's prob just iq distributionmost people are average and in the c range. id liken it to people that think "c's get degrees". not like every computer science majorr had a 4.0 or 4.0+ gpa. most people probably fall in the c avg. and are just doing what they can to get by
but an apprenticeship is super thorough. whereas a standard electrician doesn'tHAVE TOgo to school, except if you want to pass the journeyman's test, the apprenticeship has schooling for 3 to 5 years. ironically, if someone didn't go to school, they're prob not passing a state administered or even union journeyman test. but meanwhile i agree with you even journeyman that went through an apprenticeship don't really seem to grasp theory. they'll have a better overall understanding than your avg. but they can't go particularly into depth about theory. unless it's just as i explained as aforementioned; "c's get degrees". they didn't really fully understand concepts, just did enough to get by

just curious. lets say you have someone who sits on the couch all day. only does that. like literally does nothing else
how would he feel?
then you have someone who works out.. how does he feel?
i think most people being honest would say that the guy working out will prob have multiple positive factors over the guy doing nothing
so what did we learn here?
is doing nothing conducive to happiness?
or is doing something conducive to happiness?
now, i know the argument is gonna be like.. "well, you can still do other stuff while not on the job"
but, again.. what did we learn here?
is doing stuff conducive to happiness or is doing nothing?
so then doing more stuff (physically) is prob better for happiness, no?
and also, doing nothing (or even less) is a negative

Meanwhile if I was at my old tradie job, I'd have to waste sick time/PTO and be forced to be back at work after only a week of time off only to phuck up my back even more and be on disability by the time I'm 40 (basically all of my dads friends are in that shape btw). That's why my parents pushed me into white collar fields as oppose to being a tradie, and I thank them for it every day.
