Think I may have oral cancer...what to do?

Noticed my gums have been super swollen and bleeding the last few days also have swollen lymph nodes. This morning I see 1 black spot inside my cheek and 1 red patch also inside my cheek (not painful or raised) ...symptoms have lasted 4 days. Should I go see a dentist ? What are the odds this is oral cancer? I drink heavily about once every 2 weeks.

Just get seen by a medical professional as soon as possible. Don't waste time on cancer, it has the jump already when we're symptomatic so get seen.

Sort it out today.

A somewhat similar condition happens to me. When I eat pork my gums swell up, bleed, the left side of my face swells becoming painful to touch, and I develop an ear ache. I have an allergy to pork.

My dentist flipped out once when he saw my swollen gums. He was yelling at me for not brushing and flossing he claimed. (not true! I brushed and flossed regularly) At the time I didn't know what the cause was.

My dentist prescribed a tooth paste that is supposed to limit swelling. He also said if the condition continues he recommended I have my gums operated on, removing the swelled areas. Additionally he required that I use an electric tooth brush that he recommended. None of those ideas helped me. It wasn't till I figured out pork was causing the swelling that my problem went away.

Cancer doesn't appear in 4 days.

It's way more likely that you're just a nasty motherfuker who doesn't know how to brush or floss.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Update***

Dentist said I needed a cleaning bad - i Havent been to the dental hygenist in over 3 years. Bleeding can be caused by crap in your gums that an ordinary toothbrush cant reach, Also, I have 2 cavities which I need filled. They painted some fluoride on my teeth and I am getting 2 fillings next week. Also the doc recommended invisiline for my bottom teeth since they are starting to get crooked again

Do you brush and floss regularly (at least once per day)?

this, like wtf, I brush and floss and have not needed to go to the dentist in a decade and my wife works at an oral surgeons office and she loves my teeth and havnt had a cavity since I was 14.

If you brush and floss and dont eat sugar and drink sugar all the time you dont really need to go to the dentist for cleanings.

PM me a pic - maybe i can show my boss (i am a dental hygienist). but my recommendation would be to go to the dentist. they can get a biopsy done and re evaluate in 2 weeks. the black spot can be a hematoma. generally oral cancer does not present itself on the cheek. do you smoke or drink alcohol regularly? if not i am almost 100% sure its not oral cancer

if i remember correctly, yes viral infection (doctors correct me on this) is really unpredictable and does cause cancers. the epstein-barr virus (mono) and HPV do cause oral cancers (not exactly sure how frequently, probably rare). i think the increase in cancer rates since covid has a lot to do with everyone getting viral infections but thats my broscience theory

edit: i just read that you specified oral and not throat. i think theyre very closely related so i wouldnt be surprised. we learn mostly that it is alcohol and smoking. Also your wifes boss (oral surgeon?) would be the best source of info.. those guys do like 12 years of school and have much heavier course loads. DH's know their chit but its not even in the same realm as those brahs

Same.

Everytime you go to the dentist they make you believe you HAVE to go to them or your teeth will rot out. The reality is, s long as you're brushing and flossing or using a mouthwash at least once per day you should be fine. Diet is a contributing factor but even then you can drink and eat all the sugary crap you want, just make sure you're brushing before bed.

There is no secret or mystery to keeping your teeth/mouth clean.

I agree with you actually (most dental professionals would say im wrong) but your approach is wrong. Firstly you have to do it twice a day (every 12 hrs), your diet has to be good (dont **** with fermentable carbohydrates), and you HAVE to be PROPERLY removing plaque. some people only brush the front of their teeth and have a mountain of calcified plaque on the tongue side and in between. If you can EFFECTIVELY remove all plaque off your teeth twice daily with proper brushing and flossing technique, then skip the bull**** every 6 month cleaning period. If you are missing spots then that area will accumulate plaque, tartar and become diseased. plaque is a bacterial invader that causes disease, if its on the teeth for a long time its bad. Thats where most people fk up, they miss spots, their diet is ****, and they dont know how to remove everything and then they end up with 10 cavities and recessed gums.

I havent had a cleaning done in almost 2 years and i barely have any buildupp because i know what im doing. Problem is most people dont know what they're doing and they need constant check ups

also in my opinion, mouthwash is redundant if you know what you're doing
