All Quiet on the Western Front was brutal horror

I wanted to stop watching it a few times because my family fought in WW1 and he was never the same guy.

These movie honestly had me in near tears

My great grandfather fought in it. He died in 1956. He was a alcoholic bum, never fully returning home from the chit he saw. Just couldn't deal with the demons and died in a veterans home

I never claimed to have met him, but he is my blood and I have a picture of him.

People today have no perspective on war back then. You actually had to walk up to someone and stab them or run across a field basically hoping that the gunfire and bombs missed you. And your gun had one bullet basically. Never mind you lived in filth and just sucked it up.

And if you got hurt they would just saw your limb off and tie it up. Without anesthetic beyond doping you with morphine.

Studied military history as my minor in school and it was absolutely mind blowing what soldiers went through 100 years ago.

Those wars were so expensive in terms of what they had to scale up to on a very quick timeline. I wonder how everyone was able to afford it?

I have actually seen pictures of soldiers in trenches during WWI not with a rifle on hand. Im assuming if the machine post men saw an advance they would scream or sound the siren for soldiers to run and get their rifles.

As brutal as that must've been I think the days before guns and bombs were probably worse in terms of sheer savagery. Imagine when they fought wars with swords and catapults and stuff like that.
