Colds are never harmless. Rhinoviruses and coronaviruses will have a higher death rate than flu viruses among an elderly population, this has always been the case.
It's not less harmful now, you just got fooled into believing it was way worse than it actually was for the general populace. It's just getting less media attention.

The only reason it was really more severe than any other respiratory virus season is how we handled it. No lockdowns were needed, everything was simply hysteria.

Still here I just did 2 consecutive tests for relative and both were double lines or positive. Been on dog walking duty 2 times a day all week because of this.

Super lethargic, a measured 102F fever on mercury thermometer , no appetite, lots of sleeping and using paxlovid from the pharmacy.
