Trudeau, Harper, and every other Canadian PM for the last 25+ years, I would say.

Continuing to let in as many immigrants as Canada has been letting in for the last few decades = fine. But get rid of the red tape. There's so much untapped potential there. If immigrants could have their shackles removed, OMG, the T-dot metro area would freaking explode. It would unequivocally become the #3 in non-Latin North America, along with NYC and LA.

Personally, I think that Canada should do something like revisit its trade agreements under NAFTA and probably do something old-school and currently conventionally stupid like reinstituting some tariffs, for starters.

Once somebody/something is in Canada, treat it like it's actually Canadian. Promote what is one your country, take 'ownership' of it, and take your power back.

English, or French.

All the taxi drivers I ever had in Toronto, and that would be a few, spoke perfectly understandable English. Most had advanced degrees. I actually talked to them when they were driving me. I wasn't like the massive throngs of drunk bimbettes in questionable attire who slammed their taxi doors after they were probably condescending and abusive to their taxi drivers. I saw a number of those in my days in Toronto.

I have a little context about this so here's my 2 cents. I agree with the statement that we should wear masks again. This is not related to covid or rsv virus or whatever. It's because of hospital capacity in Ontario is at 150% and the shortage of nurses is 53%. This is insane. People are waiting 14 hours in emergency care. They obviously want to reduce the infection rate of ANY virus, like the common flu to mitigate the amount of people being sick. The straightforward way to do it is to wear a mask.

Bingo. I've had drivers and coworkers who are from places like Africa and Asia who are architects, health care professionals, engineers, etc who just can't get accredited here because we have ridiculous red tape to do so. Like I said, fast track the accreditation and let them work, just have them under supervision if needed for a period of time. A nurse putting in an IV and distributing meds in Bangladesh can probably do it here too.

It's an asinine mandate and one that should not be followed. First off, Mandates aren't laws, second masks are useless in viral prevention so if people want to wear one then by all means go ahead but if people choose not to that is their choice. It's been that way for over a year and things have been just fine, PA tried to do it a few months back and the backlash was swift and hard and it never happened.

I can confirm that their behavior was a heck of a lot better than the drunk bimbettes in questionable attire who slammed their doors yelling when their taxi ride was over and almost assuredly don't have to contend with anywhere near the amount of red tape that the taxi drivers I encountered had to. Funny how I NEVER had that problem, never had to yell at a taxi driver or slam a taxi door, and NEVER had female friends who I observed to act like that. But we have digressed.

I found the following book at an airport one time when flying to/from Canada back when I was actually going to/from ca 2004-2010. It is an excellent primer on why Canada now isn't what it used to be in the 1960s-1990s. Everything I remember reading in that book totally makes sense and integrates into everything else I have come to understand during that time. Not that it's anti-American, because it isn't, but it DOES stress why Canada needs to reassert some sovereignty.

Is it safe to assume you were eligible to vote in the last Ontario election? Seems we have a pot, kettle, glass house kinda thing happening (again).

I was just wondering if you're also eligible in the US. No worries though.

Opening my 3rd eye is not even within a million miles of necessary in order for me to arrive at any obvious conclusions, as pertains to the subject we are discussing, in my 5 years spent in Toronto - most of which was within or very close to the downtown core.

The history is well known.

Trudeau Sr got Canada into way too much debt, interest rates rose, Canada's credit rating bombed, the Chretien Liberal gov't had no choice but to raise taxes and allocate more money towards debt repayment by cutting programs. Unless you thought having a 10 cent dollar would be feasible.

Despite the pleas of every single provincial gov't since then, the federal gov't has barely increased payments on an inflation adjusted basis.

Sounds familiar. Except for the "surplus" part.

To be expected. Saw on the local news that American Airlines employees are striking- too much work, not enough staff, and wages not keeping up with inflation. I believe they said they haven't had a COLA in 4 years. If true it is likely very difficult to afford housing.

I heard on an interview recently that Comirnaty was banned from being manufactured in the US just days after the FDA approved it. However in the same interview they said that Comirnaty is being manufactured and sold in Europe.

So include work experience in the provisional license. If someone was able to remain employed and has a good reference from their previous employer + has the degree then I don't see why a provisional license wouldn't be a good solution.

Yes, of course all of that could make sense according to the timeline I have.

However, GST was introduced in 1991 and should have had a truly gigantic effect on the amount of $ that the government would have in order to fund programs. Added to the really high tax on alcohol (you can actually buy Canadian-made alcoholic beverages CHEAPER in the USA than you can in Canada, due to the high domestic taxation on them, and I found that out when comparing prices, for example, of Malibu Coconut Rum, in retail establishments in both the USA and Canada) that is supposed to go into healthcare funding. This is also something I learned about when touring the LaBatt brewery in London, ON with my father. There ought to be be *plenty* of money going into healthcare funding, but it doesn't sound like it's actually being spent properly, especially not with producing any solution that will allows so many of its many immigrant doctors to actually practice.

You can't have so many people get into Canada without either an advanced degree or without family ties and proof of financial support. I was an immigrant to Canada, myself, and came to know how the process worked.

GST wasn't a new tax, dummy. It was a replacement for the hidden VAT tax. They lowered the tax rate and applied it to more goods and services. And it didn't help all that much, because I don't think you realize just how far into debt Canada was and the amount of interest they were paying. Dude, you could get CSBs that paid 18% at the time.

You literally have no clue.
