Did you add 10lbs each time you got 5x5 at weight X, when you were working up?

As oppose to pushing a weighted bar up and down while lying on a bench?

thx man. usually 5 lbs or 2.5 lbs. worked really well twice a week. one day i'd also do high volume bodyweight or 3x10 of around 60-70% of the 5x5

if I am aiming for aesthetics more isolated tricep movements where a major muscle like pecs cant take over once the triceps fatigue a little, so usually cable pressdwon variations, cross cable extensions, and JM smith press

if strength is my goal its going to be more heavy pushing movements like a bench press as that is more relatable to real life situations like punching someone, pushing yourself off the ground with weight on your back, or pushing a very heavy object forward.

Your buddy Paul Carter is doing a 180 on his oPtImAL mOvEmEnTs bullish!t. Check his IG on the Lat pull-down stuff. Maybe you should update your views too srs. Stop regurgitating the “muscle fibre alignment” and “this movement is trash for hypertrophy” narrative

thats funny because i agree with almost everything Paul says and he likes some of my posts and usually likes my comments on his page

nice try though

hes not doing a 180 at all on optimal movement, hes literally showing optimal movement patterns for the lats you must be confusing his post

He’s saying the opposite. All movements are fine. Underhand chins and wide grip pulldowns are both OPTIMAL. Stop fretting over the perfect movement, pick whatever you enjoy and progress on it

so because he said that there is no 1 right way of doing things it means all ways are right? lol

strong misunderstanding for your own confirmation bias there sir

I dont fret over the "perfect" movement, I fret over PROPER and CORRECT movement. This is two different concepts. Stupid people like to do what you are doing/thinking, I encourage you to drop your ego a little bit there big man.

Doing heavy squats that only are signaling hypertrophy for the posterior chain when your intent is to grow your quads is NEVER going to grow your quads so you should NOT just keep doing it because you eNjoY dOinG wHatEvEr anD iT wiLl MaKe YoU sTiLL ProGreSs

you have no idea how many people in real life thank me for the info I put out and how extremely helpful/life changing it has been for their lifting. It is always people like you who think they know it all and are ego driven who challenge me. It is hilarious. You will spin your wheels constantly and argue with the guy twice your size who has invested 10x the time into researching and learning bodybuilding from the inside out.

You do fret over perfect movements. It’s only the new self proclaimed biomechanics cucks that think dips aren’t good for hypertrophy, meanwhile literally phucking everyone is building big pecs and triceps doing those. Bet you get a hard on every time Ben Yanes likes your comments on his retarded posts
congratulations on becoming more efficient and stronger at pushing yourself up using 2 bars and letting your legs hang

Keep doing your cable flys with the cables perfectly aligned with the upper coastal pec fibres, and the rest of us will keep doing heavy weighted dips to build our chest and tris

I don’t do flys for my triceps

I’ll do skull crushers, rope pull downs or any other various tricep specific movement

Explain to me how doing weighted dips someones triceps are going to be doing the majority of the work and not their pecs? You do realize the muscle that is engaged the most is the one that is going to get the hypertrophic response right? only the last few reps leading to true failure are a novel stimulus which means those are the only reps that will attribute to hypertrophy, and if it is your chest doing all the work on those last reps, guess what, no tricep hypertrophy signalling. But I guess this concept is WAY over your head because you are oversimplifying what Paul Carter is saying and what Ben Yanes teaches.

I think someone has been doing a lot of stupid lifting and is butthurt that these people are saying that his routine is stupid and rather than learn/drop his ego he would rather argue with people more intelligent than he is.

Strong confirmation bias once again, keep seeking out only people who agree with what you currently believe and arguing with everyone else who has very well placed arguments for why what you do is not as beneficial. See how that works out for you.

Lol strong assumptions. My training has been going great, thanks. Making steady progress with strength and size. Your guy Ben Yanes looks like he's never touched a phucking weight in his life.

Kinda weird, most of the biomechanics experts are usually juiced to the tits, and they claim that they got jacked by doing these "optimal" movements. Yet they all looked just as big when they were using conventional training styles and movements. You boyfriend Paul Carter used to be jacked af when he was powerlifting before he started training the way he does now. I'm pretty sure you got your size training like a meathead too

oh so another fallacious way of thinking, you only attribute someones knowledge to how they look.

Just lol.

Actually I got most of my size when I dropped my ego and stopped caring about how much weight I was lifting, dead serious.

This may be the way to go, to be fair.

I just use body weight & added weight. So was hoping dips etc would be enough for tris. Hard to target triceps specifically tho with body weight stuff. There are sphinx push ups to do, but they are hard as fook, hard to scale down..

the problem is the more your humerus moves in relation to your torso the more your shoulders and chest are being used or your lats, so in order to isolate triceps you really need to isolate elbow flexion and extension.

Even though oldboy up here thinks I just regurgitate stuff I actually simply just understand the physics of movement for lifting and how the body's different muscle groups work in relation to that and its quite simple what movements are correct and incorrect for stimulating the intended muscle. He can argue until he is blue in the face why I am wrong but hes arguing actual science that is pretty well understood by myself and clearly not him.

A very minimalistic routine, train each muscle group once a week

Chest, tris, delts 5x5 weighted dips, lateral raises 3 sets of whatever
Legs 5x5 squats
Back + bis 3x5 deadlifts, 3x5 Weighted pull ups or bent over rows. 5x5 bicep curls

As long as I go up in weight i'm making gains. Im bigger and stronger training 3 days a week with minimal exercises in a poverty home gym than when I was spinning my wheels doing a bro split 6 days a week in an actual gym.

i like the minimlaistic routine. not spending all day in the gym. if you want to progress faster at dips would recommend at least twice a week. i got to 110 for 3x5 in a couple months from about 65 doing 5x5 mon/fri and unweighted volume or less weight 3x10 wednesday

I highly doubt that

OP is making juicy pec and tris gains by dipping two plates for 5x5 and you're coming in to regurgitate Paul Carter's jizz ITT

once again a small miscer who has studied biomechanics and hypertrophy 1000x less than me who thinks they have any place to argue against me.

Seriously dude use your brain. What makes you think you know more about training than me?

I literally have brad schoenfield and john jewett and paul carter and coach kassem liking my posts, but yeah you know more about ANYTHING in lifting than me. just lol.

Fair point, well made.

So calisthenic lads will have to rely on tricep growth from compound movements like dips. Or be strong enough to rep out sphinx push ups (very hard) to isolate tris?

We may well be fooked..
