South Korea puts traffic lights on ground to alert 'Phone Obsessed Zombies

With stunning internet connectivity and innumerable intriguing apps to surf on, smartphones are nothing less than an obsession among the current generation.

It may seem impossible to put an end to smartphone addiction as the undivided attention to phone screens has also reportedly added to the increasing number of accidents.

Now, it appears that South Korea is the first nation to come up with a solution. Exhibiting the adage that modern problems need modern solutions, Seoul has installed traffic lights on the ground instead of up on poles. Yes, you read that right.

Already living ahead of its time, the Asian country has come up with this technology to help people who are glued to their phone screens while crossing the roads. In the nation, such people are called Smombies i.e. smartphone obsessed zombies.

The unique technology came to light after Indian industrialist Shrinivas Dempo took to his official Twitter account to share a video of South Korean citizens using the new street lights.

While sharing the video, the businessman wrote in the caption, “Sign of the times: Traffic signals move down to the road level at this crossing in Seoul so that people they call Smombies (smartphone-obsessed zombies) can safely cross the roads while using their smartphones.”

Video:

Fuk, you think this will come to the US? Literally everyone is on their phone. Can't even have a conversation with anyone without them looking at their phone.

Yeah but it's exactly the same everywhere else. I've lived in Vancouver, Waterloo area, and Halifax. It's no different in Western countries, lmao. It just looks more noticeable cause Seoul is crowded as fk.

Seoul/South Korea perfectly demonstrates the dangers of fetishizing modernity/Westernizing at all cost. It's pretty much the same thing in most big cities in China. Just soulless zombies going about, "must escape poverty, must acquire name brand, must get education, must get rich". Abandon all cultures and disregard customs in their mindless pursuit of economic growth.

Would you rather rot in Canada or Seoul for the rest of your life though?

Everything is so much more convenient in Seoul.

-Make a doctor's appointment the same day and get your results back the next day.
-Food in Korea >> food in Canada
-Public transport is 100x better
-Buy anything you need and have them delivered the next day
-Don't have to deal with White trash or astronauts on a daily basis
-Learn wrestling and boxing from a national-level competitor (I practice MMA, so this is a big merit, lmao)

Everywhere you go people are looking at their phones i've pretty much given up trying to do anything social. I'm guilty of it also. It's literally hard for me to go more than 20 minutes unless i'm driving somewhere.

Slow night at the gym tonight but one guy was there the whole hour I was working out. When I was warming up he was leaned over those jump on boxes looking at his phone. As I was doing dumbell work he was in a rack on a bench looking at his phone, then moved to a different rack/bench to look at his phone, finally finished by sitting on a machine looking at his phone. I had my earbuds in but the only weights I heard clanging were my own, I don't think the guy lifted a single weight in that hour.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.
