lmao no fkin way. "any length of time" should cue you that the entire sentence is bullchit. the human body can adapt to any sleep cycle. i worked graveyard for a couple months here and there and all it takes is diligence in maintaining a set sleep schedule even on days off and really good blinds. body felt completely normal after a week, its the morons that stayed up "early" on their days off that always complained and looked like chit.

its about far more than sleep schedule. Our bodies have also evolved over millions of years living based off of waking when the sun rises or just before and going to sleep after it sets. This effects brain chemistry heavily and in turn a lot of physiology and it reaches far beyond just adjusting to sleeping at a different time of the 24 hour period. Waking up when its afternoon/evening and going to bed when its light out really ****s you up.

i think humans are advanced enough to adapt down to brain chemistry, maybe some negative effects but to think you loose 10 years of your life is absurd, maybe some vitamin d deficiency but aslong as you wake up before sunset and make sure to get some sun its fine. I wouldn't be surprised if there are examples of ancient human civilizations that ran on different cycles based on climate and prey characteristics.

are you basing this off of what you think just because of your own logical conclusions, or based off of seeing the actual studies that have been done showing the physiological and psychological effects? Because there are TONS of them if you search night shift work and associated effects/disorders.

I have no interest in internal dialogue derived "I think".

No, worst part is getting off work at Saturday morning 6AM and you want to have a social life and have things planned for Saturday...during the day.... go on dates, watch a game, go to a family members's bday, BBQ. Same thing with Sunday....actually want to do social things (Even though I know this may be unfamiliar to the MISC) so you are constantly tired, changing your sleep schedule, then going back to work monday night at 6PM. It's brutal and totally not worth it if you are a single brah with a social life.

The guys who LIKED the night shift were ALL MARRIED with kids, they weren't having sex with their wives anymore, and they basically just wanted to be left alone, they'd take their kids to school after their shift ended early on weekdays, and basically avoid their wives. Super sad life.....but they claim to like it.

I doubt they really like it, it's just less miserable for them and a better alternative than dealing with people/wife and kids possibly.

When I was on nights it was 230pm till 1am. 10 hour days but fri-sat-sun off. was GOAT. Wood go to bed typically around 6am and sleep until 1-130pm and wake up naturally. Even tho I had my alarm set for 1:45 I never needed it. Always need it for dayshift and half the time i wanna press snooze.

either went home to game on xbox which was way better cuz no young high pitched kids telling me they ****ed my mom or im a bitch constantly. Streets were mostly empty. Gym is empty. Or go to the bars that are full of drunk sloots. They open until 3am here.

Went to bed at near the same time everyday so good sleeps always. unlike dayshift where most ppl try to be in bed by 10-11 but on weekends they are up until 1-2am. then dredead sunday comes around hard to go to bed early than it makes monday so hard. and youre catching up tues/wens just to repeat the cycle again on friday, LOL!

the studies of nightshift workers die sooner are probably those who are on SHIFT work as in some weeks days than others nights. You cant get into a pattern.
2-1am isnt really night shift, you were just not being wise by staying up until 6am when you could have gone to bed at 2am and woken up at 10am which isnt that off schedule.

The real night shift is when you get off at 5-7am in the morning when day shift comes in to relieve you.

I had the most sex of my life when I worked graveyard shift but it was because it made dating really easy, but the opposite for relationships. When you are full of energy at 10pm on dates it makes things much smoother.

most modern men are too weak to adapt, there's other factors at play that lead to those disorders. but sure if you require studies to discuss anything and are incapable of drawing your own conclusions from observing nature then i agree there's no need for further discussion. The main thing I originally wanted to point out is that losing 10 years of life from working nightshift is completely absurd.

The thread reminds me of one of the King's short stories and also the 1990 movie based on it.

lol mr facts is upset.

most psychological studies just lead to more questions which require more studies, and the results end in opinions as to the results anyway. my truth sayer probably googled the subject and glossed over titles and abstracts and now he's a certified expert. lol reminds me of covidcells, trust the science!

enlighten yourself just a little

https://hubermanlab.com/toolkit-for-sleep/

understand that people who understand more than you are only arguing so that better, more factual information get out rather than silly information that is actually contradictory and unhealthy to spread.
Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist and tenured Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine
he bases everything on evidence and research from a multitude of sources some of which he even has on the podcast to explain their research or practice in the field.

I don't mind second shift. But third shift? Nope. I tried it for a few weeks once and it just wasn't worth it.

Funny. Huberman is exactly who I would point to for solid information on the importance of sleep. IIRC he says there are 4 hours of the night you should truly be in full darkness and sleeping- 1 am to 5 am maybe? or midnight to 4 am?

zero proof of your opinion in that link.
yea sleep is a need. its tricky but it is possible to get good consitent restful sleep working nights, i didnt need a study or a phd to tell me this because i did it for 6 months.

i dont get your deal. by what means does someone who is getting plenty of deep sleep, good nutirion, and balanced work and personal life...suffer this great health risk just because he works nights.

the negatives come from not being able to adapt, those who lose all contact with friends/family, cant change their sleep cycle, eat poorly, are alone. yes this is a common condition of nightshift workers, but it doesnt always have to be the case.

i dont get your deal. by what means does someone who is getting plenty of deep sleep, good nutirion, and balanced work and personal life...suffer this great health risk just because he works nights.

the negatives come from not being able to adapt, those who lose all contact with friends/family, cant change their sleep cycle, eat poorly, are alone. yes this is a common condition of nightshift workers, but it doesnt always have to be the case.
The biological process that are regulated by the sun are many. If the link didn't show that then maybe an interview would be better. I think that Huberman has been on a lot of podcasts. I know he has been on Lex Friedman, I think Chris Williams, Joe Rogan, and Tom Bilyeu.

no you just cant do anything for yourself I pointed you in a direction and all you did was look at it for ways to continue arguing your side. There is no point trying to go further, and I know this and don't feel like wasting anymore time.

from defensive to agressive to magnanimous to dismissive. quite an impressive array of emotion, go on then no real loss here.

That is your perception when I have actually been pretty even keel objective the whole time. It is more of a reflection on the way you have interpreted what I have said. Reflect on that maybe, but doubtful, likely to just try and get the last word in again.
