My dad worked in the business. It's highly unlikely places won't accept physical cash for a car. There are usually specific dealerships that specialize in cash too. My dad's first dealership specialized in cash deals because of the local strippers. They got a lot of mexican's too.

Is this directed toward businesses or actual individual citizens?

I assumed this was toward businesses when I first heard this crap. I can think of a thousand reasons someone would receive $600 and not need to file taxes. Buy $1000 worth of clothes, sell em 5 years later for $600 and have to pay taxes? Fukking stupid.

This is old news, and the reason why venmo and other transactional platforms now have a separate friends and family tab. Someone has to pay for the trillions of dollars printed within the past few years.

They had to really go out of their way to do it like this. They could have just extended the things that capital gains tax covers.

Reps from both parties have proposed raising the threshold amount from $600 to $5000 earlier this year but it doesn't look like it will pass anytime soon. Got an e-mail from ebay asking to sign a petition to Congress, ebay is probably going to get crushed this year.

The IRS also requires you to solicit and report taxpayer IDs for anyone you pay $600 to by cash or check, if you want to write off the amount as a business expense. Failure to do so is a $650 fine per payee assessed to the person claiming the write off. Good luck getting people to hand over their SSN. Saying they refused only works if you solicited the SSN before sending the money.

I think even as an individual filing you can still write off what you paid for the item that you sold, unless you didn't keep the receipt.

If you don't file/pay tax then they start fining you and continue to increase the fine.

Eventually the IRS can put a real hurt on you.
This makes no sense, because if you sold an item you paid more for several years earlier, then you can't pay tax on it....
