Just kidding. it's not.

"Get a 6-pack and see if you are still depressed."

It's the dumbest advice I've ever heard.

As a gym addict, I used to spend way too much time in the gym to procrastinate on other important areas of my life. Made me even more depressed when I was working out 2 times a day while neglecting my other responsibilities.

it's similar to people thinking having lots of money beats depression. They don't understand actual depression.

Running is like a meditative experience for me and I always feel amazing right after.

But yeah, it's just a way to hide and procrastinate from your real problems.

Cardio is better for elevating your mood

Lifting doesn’t elevate my mood at all but 30 mins on the treadmill or going to a boxing gym does

Usually money and figuring out what you like/makes you feel good.

Some form of exercise usually makes people feel good

99% of depression is self-inflicted

Having a purpose in life + responsibility cures depression. The lifting just gives you confidence and helps build discipline

Activity disorder can be as bad as an eating disorder. If you overdo exercise it can take over your life and make you anxious, depressed and injured.

Agreed. I have years of MMA training and can confirm cardio >> lifting for improving your mood.

7 speed, 2 incline for 30 mins

But I find the treadmill trash and kinda boring

My boxing instructor puts me through this warm up where I skip rope, do jumping jacks and all this weird running on the spot chit where I’m swinging my arms like a retard and I get a way better workout

For some that adjustment might be the difference. It's about moderation and balance of healthy habits. If someone isn't lifting at all and depressed, lifting might be the best way to beat depression for them, specifically.
As others have mentioned ITT cardio seems to be a quicker endorphin fix than lifting. Lifting is more about the long-term.

I love staying active, and if I'm in a good training rhythm, I'll spend a lot of my day looking forward to it.

I'm the opposite. Lifting helps me much more than cardio. Cardio does a little but getting a good lifting session makes me feel so much happier afterwards.

Gonna go progress my ability to climb a rope without using legs at the gym today. Work on my front/middle split and pancake. Some other stretches. Hanging L-sit, skin the cat to German hang. Maybe really go at front lever or really go at planche or sorta both, but not really. Go to the gym, have fun trying to be able to do stuff I never thought I could do when I was just lifting weights.

Someone going through depression isn't likely gonna be regularly going to the gym.
The billionaire and the beggar both have 24 hours in a day.

That's why grandma's apple pie rocks and yours sucks.

The things that get you out of depression are the things that are hardest to do while depressed

Gotta suck it up and do these things or continue as a worthless depressed person

You're older than 99,99% of the living multicellular organisms on this planet though. In your post menopausal and rapidly aging existence, preventing osteoporosis is what's most beneficial for you, and lifting is what keeps your dried out carcass from shattering like Mr.Glass's body falling down a flight of stairs.

Anyone whose ever thought there was a way to beat depression other than finding and dealing with core issues that are causing it is a legit moron. It’s not a natural state of mind.
