Kyiv winter 'apocalypse' possible says mayor Klitschko, but urges calm

Kyiv's mayor on Wednesday warned of an "apocalypse" scenario for the Ukrainian capital this winter if Russian air strikes on infrastructure continue and said although there was no need for people to evacuate now, they should be ready to do so.

"Kyiv might lose power, water, and heat supply. The apocalypse might happen, like in Hollywood films, when it's not possible to live in homes considering the low temperature," Mayor Vitali Klitschko told Reuters in an interview.

It's still incredible, looking back, to see simultaneously:

1) Just how weak Russia is; and
2) Just how willing Ukrainians are to fight to the death.

A tragedy in many ways, but my gosh have Russia and China both taken giga-Ls this year.

You say they are willing to fight to the death but the fact is they get no choice, they are forced to fight by law, no ukrane is allowed to just up and leave the country

I saw video yesterday of ukrine soldiers executing other ukaine soldiers, I guess they weren't "willing"

Does getting drafted scream willing to fight to you?

How weak is Russia?

Looking back, I remembered when we at least respected nations with professional militaries and nuclear weapons.

We are at this moment closer to nuclear annihilation than ANY moment that existed during the Cold War. Somehow you've been convinced through memes that the dire situation for Ukraine does not exist and the potential for even a mistake to end us all is a battlefield miscalculation away.

Maybe we deserve it tbh. There are very few grown ups in charge.

I never said I worked on the F-35, i've worked in a team that was working on it.

I don't know what the whole point of the F-22 is, i'm not an expert on fighter jets. All I know is that it's only beeen used for ground strikes in Syria and Iraq. They've barely been used.

In comparrison the Shahed drone has made more of an impact in a much shorter time span for a fraction of the cost.

Azerbaijani sources claim: "Armenia has purchased 600 missile systems from Iran."

Iran sent 600 Iranian-made missiles to Armenia in October, Trend reported on Wednesday, citing informed sources.500 of them are Dehjlaviyeh guided anti-tank missile systems, and 100 are Almas missile systems.

Note that the Dehjlaviyeh missile system was developed in 2012 by order of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support, while the Almas system was presented in 2021 by order of the Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Glad to see Iran support the Armenians after the collective west through them under the bus. Technology proven in Ukraine can now support more bullied and disenfranchised people.

That's great an all, except Ukraine's military budget has been running at roughly 7.5% of Russia's historically. Just because you match a country for one year does not magically make you their peer, it's year after year of investment that accumulates capability. And you lot call those supporting Ukraine retarded LOL.

It's mind blowing to see people spin this as if Russia lost anything. Failing to meet ambitious expectations does not equate to loss. Russia is in a better position than they would have been if Minsk 2 had been implemented, which is, again, why the US' and Ukraine's decisions regarding the war are hilariously braindead. When this is resolved and a peace NEGOTIATED (As people like me screamed to do for months and everyone bsed and said was impossible), people will look back and realize what a stupid decision this was. This is why humanitards should not run our government. They are unable to calculate anything. They have no understanding of logic and reason and frankly, they are better at bsing than thinking.

Every single argument given to support ongoing warfare over negotiation is a hollow emotional one, usually parroted as a talking point by some subhuman polisci rodent from the state department like Michael McFaul. Their crybaby bleeding heart elitist echo chambers are unable to make the very trivial and basic estimates needed to arrive at the optimal military action to reduce casualties and resolve the conflict.

When this war began, I spammed Biden with letters pleading negotiation. Since I'm a nobody, I, of course, only got chain responses saying "Putin will pay a heavy price." Well gee. That's great. Putin will pay a heavy price and so will Ukraine. What will that solve? Nothing. It's an emotional spite driven action. Russia is willing to pay that price. They will pay it for their security. We completely failed to understand. Our attempts at deterrence exacerbated the situation and created the crisis (when we armed Ukraine), and then rather than negotiate, we spitefully sought to punish Russia rather than end the conflict. Well great. Everyone is now worse off. It takes 2 s to game this out and see why a settlement is the ONLY safe option here for everyone.

I think we all want peace. So when is Russia going to give Ukraine its territory back and pay reparations? The former being what is needed at a minimum for there now to be peace. Why blame this solely on Ukraine when Russia could also end it today?

It's not coming back. People need to get real about this. Crimea is fuking gone. And there won't be any nice scenario of reintegration with DPR and LPR. That's gone too.

Because Ukraine could have implemented Minsk 2. Instead they killed the head of DPR and cut off the water supply to Crimea. They continued to accept arms from the US and openly signaled they would eventually join NATO and even retake Crimea. How can there be any peace with Russia in those contexts? Ukraine should never have listened to the US on kicking Russia out of Sevastopol. And the US should have never helped the far right in Ukraine carry out their coup. It divided and fragmented their nation and brought them here, to ruin.

Russia cannot end it without a solution that ends with them keeping Crimea and the security of Russian Ukrainians being preserved. And they hold all the fuking cards.

Why do I blame this on Ukraine? Well where do I start? First of all, Ukraine passed racist ass language laws and marginalized Russian Ukrainians, making life intolerable for them and leading to the rift that eventually led to the war in Donbass. Ukraine entered 2 fuking agreements to end said war and failed to do so, and it was later admitted by Poroshenko that the agreements were only to buy time to eventually retake Crimea. Russia tried for a ceasefire 29 times and waited 8 fuking years for chit to resolve, and it was just made worse for Russia's security with every passing year. Russia and Ukraine had reached a tentative peace deal after the invasion only for the UK to come in and urge Ukraine to fight. And Ukraine listened. And to rewind to 2019, Zelensky ran on a peace platform and had been openly mocked and threatened by Azov leaders and other far right members when he tried for peace.

So, yes. I blame Ukraine. I blame all the idiotic Banderite ultranationalists that brought us here and I blame the neocons in the US foreign policy establishment for ruthlessly using Ukraine as cannon fodder to destabilize Russia.

And as with most of our foreign policy projects of the last 30 years, it will be a total disaster and end with results contrary to those sought by our esteemed polisci degree overlords. But we'll keep voting in retards because of our lying and manipulated media and our docile and uneducated population.

Best case scenario would be a return to borders pre invasion in 2022. Russia keeps Crimea and Donbas.
Sadly I don't think RUssia will agree to this since they would have to give up Mariupol.

oh and btw Putin yesterday released a statement saying prepare for a long drawn out war so doesn't look like Russia is ready for peace any time soon

Why would Russia agree to anything at this point? Ukraine will break over the winter.

It's kind of funny that you jump in. I was thinking morons like ****inator have encouraged the Ukranians into this horrible situation. Meanwhile you live an easy life in a peacful country.

The Ukranians are going to freeze to death, you clearly have no idea how ****ed they are.

Meanwhile in reality:

I don't think you realsie how bad things are for Ukraine.

The russians set up the Kherson trap; to trap their forces in an inactive battlefield. The Ukranians now have a large force that cannot redeploy, whereas the Russian forces have move to active areas. This was acghhieved vy destroying the electrical ifnrastructure of Ukraine. In Ukraine all equipment is mvoed by train so destroying transformers the russians have also destroyed the means for Ukraine to redeploy. They waited for the Ukranians to move a huge force to that region and then stopped them from leaving.

Bakhmut which you always insist is a failure is turning into another trap for Ukraine forces, where we see short lines of logistics for russia, a 9:1 artillery advantage and a ruthless meat grinder of Ukranian forces.

The Ukranians keep feeding the meat grinder too.

It's a bad situation.

It's interesting to note that initially when the war started, Russia only had a 2:1 advantage and that is now 9:1 after all of the Ukranians equipment was destroyed by the Russias aerospace forces.
