New Vegas feels like it's better for repeated play-thoughs with the different paths you can take, but Fallout 3 is an utter classic with one of the best game intros of all time. I think they standout for different reasons, Fallout 3 feels more like you are wandering around a ruined city while New Vegas is more of a desert wasteland type of game.

New Vegas all the way.

I've never played FO3 but I heard it has it's own charm that should be experienced.

New Vegas is objectively better but the first time playing through FO3 near release with the exploration and the music was just an amazing gaming experience.

New Vegas was the best FO story IMO

Plus it was the last time Ron Pearlman narrated the intro/outro.

FO3 is more post Apocalypse while FO:NV and other Fallouts are more post-post apocalypse.

NV has infinitely better plot, characters, writing and quests and the setting actually makes sense, all in all it's an actual and very solid RPG that was plagued on release from being a buggy mess.

FO3 suffers from the usual Bethesda retardation where it's wide as an ocean but shallow as a puddle and nothing really makes any sense, especially the base ending. You can roam around and do "zomg that's so cool" crap, but that's it.

I've played both, and all of their DLC.

New Vegas imo had a much better story, items and great characters. However FO3 was still a great game in it's own right.

Both are excellent in different ways.

New Vegas has a better freedom of choice in terms of the story, and I probably liked the setting a bit better. Fallout 3 has great set pieces and a more focused story.

I'd say overall new Vegas is the better game but one thing I'll say about that is that the engine was already made so obsidian just had to come up with the story and "level design".

I think the outer worlds proved that obsidian aren't good "game makers", but they are good story tellers.

It's a preference. We can't make you like NV more.

You want a more desolate feeling and dread? FO3

You want more role play elements and side quests? FONV

NV was a bigger map with more to do but both were great games. Zones in FO3 were kind of small and it's definitely more dated gameplay. NV is more modern. Combat is way more fluid.

This is actually a good take imo. I've played TOW too, and reading this makes a lot of sense. Their story telling and conversation writing is great, if FO4 had that level of dialogue, it would have been even better.

I found the world of Fallout 3 more immersive and I loved seeing the real life structures/areas in the game.

I did enjoy New Vegas alot though. If I had to start a new game for one of them today, it would be New Vegas as I couldn't stand going through FO3's slow beginning again haha.

Enjoyed them both, but New Vegas felt like half a game they fluffed up with a bunch of easy fetch quests. FO3 takes the cake.

Deeper decision making, better writing (GOAT Obsidian at their best), and you can actually aim down sights when fighting.

Best FO by far.

EDIT: Though agreed on peoples take with Outer Worlds. Only Obsidian game I've played that I didn't like. I chalk it up to funding problems though. They tried to hard to hit their Fallout heights and missed. I think the sequel will be better with that Microsoft $.

Also, a space game without intelligent alien species is peak trog.
