You're on your deathbed, would you continue your life in a virtual world or die?
Let's say technology gets to the point where you could transfer your consciousness into a virtual world. Your organs are destroyed due to getting sodomized by Bill Clinton. Would you live out the rest of your life in a virtual world or die?
Fk the Good Poster Crew (Lockdev, Pink, Kimm, Wasps, Expatriot, Mulloway, Luc1fer, Smallpeter, gwg, Super Hercules, Bonobo, maori-rap, Based Bagel, ezmac31, Goobaa, Godfrd and many more). You know who you are.

OP just watched Black Mirror's San Junipero episode?
I'm not sure. I think it'd depend on my autonomy in the virtual world, and what happens with my memories, as well as whether from inside that world I could choose to end it too.

OP, what are your thoughts on this transhumanist idea necessitating an outmoded dualist view of the mind? This is premised on the tired Cartesian divorce between the mind and the body; as if consciousness and cognition are some sort of substance running quasi-independently from the body which could in theory be dissociated from the body and stored/transferred into some sort of artificial substrate.
The transhumanists are just glossing over decades of work we've done on the embodied and situated nature of cognition, and there are massive problems with the information-processing view of intelligence as well. AFAIK Nick Bostrom and Ray Kurzweil are not even aware, let alone have refuted, the critiques of the informational processing views given by Hubert Dreyfus and John Haugeland.
That is why I am a firm skeptic of the possibility of genuine artificial intelligence. Not to say there can't be some form of post-mortem existence, but I definitely don't think it's in some of disincarnate informational-processing form.

If you believe in past lives ( lots of examples with kids who know stuff they shouldn't) then we return several times in different forms to learn.
i would just die and return for my next lesson.

There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Is it really you though?
This brings into the question “theseus ship”
Same can be said for western countries, if all the Germans in Germany are replace by Turks is it still germany? I’d say no
Germany is it culture, traditions and people, not lines on a map
This brings into the question “theseus ship”
The Ship of Theseus is a thought experiment about whether an object that has had all of its original components replaced remains the same object. According to legend, Theseus, the mythical Greek founder-king of Athens, had rescued the children of Athens from King Minos after slaying the minotaur and then escaped on a ship to Delos. Every year, the Athenians commemorated this legend by taking the ship on a pilgrimage to Delos to honor Apollo. The question was raised by ancient philosophers: After several centuries of maintenance, if every part of the Ship of Theseus had been replaced, one at a time, was it still the same ship?
To me no… if my consciousness was transferred to AI, another body or even a clone of myself. It’s no longer me, just a copy of meSame can be said for western countries, if all the Germans in Germany are replace by Turks is it still germany? I’d say no

OP, please respawn. These are serious issues with the idea that you must deal with. There are others ITT who set a very poor example by just sticking their fingers in their ears and going NEE NEE NEE NEE or otherwise resorting to childish insults.
Back off, Warchild.
Seriously.

As in your brain is wired up to a device that simulates inputs/outputs so that to you brain it feels like you are just living in another world? Of course people with brain issues that won't work. OR like starwars where someone's brain is basically scanned onto a computer so their likeness is run through some kind of AI, but it's really not them exactly.
