One of the best investments you can make is a Waterpik (srs).

Haven't had a cavity in over 15+ years using it.

I brought one and it raped my gums, I couldn't adjust it soft enough.

Start on the lowest setting and far away from your teeth/gums if needed. You will splash water around but it's worth it. Slowly bring the sprayer inside your mouth over the days/weeks once accustomed to the pressure. Then slowly bring the lowest setting to higher setting until about half over the days/weeks.

That's not enough. The water pressure will blast away food particles you can't get to from swishing water alone. These food particles are what bacteria breed in and cause cavities.

Just run hot water thru it after each cleaning and you're good. I've only ever replaced the brush head as it wears out and the unit itself when it finally gave out after years and years of service.

Nah, water flossers suck.

1. You have to be careful with the angle. If you get the angle wrong at all you'll have water shooting out your mouth all over the bathroom mirror.

2. You can't clean the reservoir that holds the water. Nothing says "hygiene" like spraying stale water into your gums lol.

Just floss with string
1 - it's a technique, you get the hang of it after a couple of times... not really an issue

2 - don't know if this is for every model but mine just has a removable reservoir that you can easily clean, of course there might always be the slightest residu in the system
