Do relationships ever truly work out?

Even the most promising ones always seem to end in heart-stomping soul-crushing disappointment.

Think about this...

The only way a relationship doesn't fail is if at least one person in the relationship dies.

Now assuming a normal life with some assumed averages, let's say people meet in their 20s and die in their 70s

You got 50 years worth of potential relationship ending activity.

You could have 49 years of successful relationship and on the 364th day of the 48th year it goes to sh*t, that's a railed relationship.

So back to it, you have 50 years worth of individual days, all suited to be the end of a relationship, and only ONE day in all of time for a relationship to be considered a success.

My parents knew each other since they were children and that's the type of situation that works out.

In recent decades, you meet a person you don't know, you like something general about each other, then think you have relationship material. However, for millions of years that is NOT how people find mates, it's probably less than 100 years.

People are not able to engage in proper mating and bonding, so most people will end up with someone they don't know and don't like.

I am not sure how to counteract this problem.

Depends on what you value more, family and structure or being cool with all of society being the 'Real Housewives of -------.' Ideally we'd have marriage contracts that are renewable every 5 years. You re-up or you don't. If you're 40 and can score 25 yr old ass it doesn't mean you should. Society rather goes to hell without long-term relationships. Kids being passed around like a water bong doesn't do any of us any favors. Sure we're one of the few species that pair bond ideally forever. But we also build skyscrapers, create societies of millions of people, and discover medicines to help each other across the world. By contrast even our closest mammal cousins throw their feces the just shat on the ground a few minutes ago when angry and are mostly emotionally the equivalent of human 6 year olds, at best.

Not gonna lie, ideally we'd have society where men (since we can't get pregnant) could step out occasionally consequence free and because of the Coolidge Effect, but that's not where we're at yet. Especially since now half of us don't die before age 50. Relationships can work out. Obviously not all of them. You live and you learn, often well after the fact "thank god that's over" while with someone a hell of a lot better for you. Boo-****ing-hoo. Do you have some friendships that last long? Yes, of course. Far from all, but some. The same goes for love relationships.

Misc is full of slack jaw f a g g o t s that are upset their feelings got hurt. We've all been there. But misery loves company, like 19 yr olds full of clown world propaganda, but you grow up and move on.
Yeah Buddyyy! Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

No, of course not.

By definition a relationship "working out" would mean they meet, hit it off, get married and stay married for life.

That is one of two inevitable conclusions, the other being the relationship ending some time before then.

Yes.

I grew up out in the wilderness and so there were no girls who lived anywhere by me. So, there was no bonding.

I felt my parents, who were pretty nice, were stupid for having me grow up out there. I had a brother and he was very intelligent but a loner.

I was interested in girls but didn't get to act on it much until college. Then, when in college I was in the middle of the "strong career woman" phase of society and you are not bonding with those women.

I was super career driven and so with most women we were just renting each other.

I get VERY tired of not being compatible with a woman or having a female-man (career woman) as a partner so I ended all of my previous relationships.

A few years ago, I developed the idea that uneducated women are the way to go and they were not hard to find in Philly. So, I have now been in a fairly long relationship with a woman I have little in common with intellectually but at least she is a sweet "wife" type from caveman times, lol.

If anything happens here I believe I would be happy to be single and never seek anything else out.

If you are not bonded with women over a lot of things, relationships are annoying and costly.

Long story short, one of my best brahs had his heart ripped from him recently. He proposed to his GF of 8 years in September, she said yes, then called the wedding off two months later and told him she had feelings for someone else.

There were no signs, no warnings, no tiny arguments or transgressions before the proposal or after between them, then out of the blue she drops this bomb on him.

This had to be the best relationship I've ever witnessed (she seemed hella loyal/like a unicorn, they never fought, she had wifey hobbies/didn't do sloot activities), and she still ended up being a sloot.

Tours over boyos. I could go on and on about this **** but man..she ****ing ripped his heart out.

He's so broken rn and I don't think he'll ever be the same.

Thing is, it's not even her fault. It's not a character flaw srs. That's just how they are wired. A sloot is always gonna sloot. 200k years of evolution.

Marriage and monogamy are NOT natural conditions. It only works through brute force by isolating women and restricting their rights. If they break the contract, the penalty is supposed to be complete isolation from the community or worse. Once those conditions are gone, fuggettaboutit. The absolute best you can hope for is a woman who resists her natural urges and at least keeps her word.
