When it comes to politics the scum of each side is the most vocal. So places like this or reddit eventually become overrun with their respective scum. Most people with sense either leave these spaces or don't have a hard-on for politics in their posts.

Right Wing Scum: Bitter white guys or white women who blame their problems on minorities, women, and anyone else that interrupts their perceived power/Old Boys Club

Left Wing Scum: Bitter, lazy, and MSM brainwashed minorities or women who blame white men and the American system for their shortcomings.

There's more ideology involved IRL. Online people complain about their opposition so that's how these spaces turn into cesspools. Personally I think both reddit and misc are retards who take this stuff too seriously.
