The times you have fixed something and saved $

Recently tore off rear right ABS sensor , dealer quoted $560 for the part and $220 to install it .

Got the part $25 and fitted it myself took five minutes .

saved $755

-Had to convert my range/stove to propane, called around, local handyman wanted $200-250. Did it myself in about a half hr
-Motor on Window for my old MR2 went out, called around, places wanted 800-1,000. Took some tools down to the junkyard, dismantled an old MR2 myself, put new motor in, cost $50

I do all my own servicing on my cars and motorbikes.
Biggest saving was probably doing my own valve clearances on my bike. Garage wanted £450 because it's very labour intensive, fuel tank and a bunch of other chit has to come off.
I spent £30, 20 of that was new spark plugs. Took 5 hours including cleaning and polishing various parts along the way and made a tool out of aluminium flat bar to save buying the official Suzuki tool which was £80 and did the same thing. Very satisfying buttoning her up and turning the key

i am by no means the only DIYer in here but other than a fix-n-flip, one specific thing from that house was the water heater that was on its last leg. didnt know chit, just watched a bunch of youtube and replaced it (drained it then saw-zawd that bich in half). for the electric i believe it took 10/2 but at the end of the day, the inspector was there for something else and the only thing i didnt do was re-screw the plate on top or something.

last year when the central air condenser went out, i drained the cap on it, bought another one just in case but ill be damned if all it took was flipping the breaker off then on.

fixed my camaro countless times when i had it.

Most recent would be my clothes dryer . Belt broke and Amazon had one for 25 bucks . Installed it myself and probably saved bigly.
I imagine it would have cost over half its value had I called an appliance guy

My door handle on my benz snapped off. Bought a new one off amazon $25, someone replaced it for me for free.

Had to convert a clothes dryer from propane to natural gas. A $20 natural gas orifice was all that was needed. 30 minute job.

I mean all the time.

All of the outlets in my and my daughter's bedroom stopped working for some reason. None of the breakers were tripped. I replaced every outlet one by one until the power went back on. I think I spent like $30 instead of a few hundred dollars on an electrician.

Some ****g0t woodpecker made a few holes above my garage in late fall, I went to menards and got bondo and a pint of exterior paint for $25 instead of having the planks replaced.

I keep 2 working washers and 2 dryers in my big rental houses. They are plumbed or wired for 1 of each appliance. I install the additional water supply and drain lines for washer #2. I add a 220 outlet or run a new gas line for dryer #2. It's not rocket science people.

I've saved the most money working on my car. Everything else, we have a trusted neighborhood handyman to do handyman stuff, like pipes, bathroom, etc.

Ordered some Chinese fairings for my hayabusa after a bad low side. Also replaced mirrors, stator cover, redid the electrical system with new stator, lithium battery, and a rectifier from a much newer b-king. Replaced all the lights with led and clear lenses. New chain and sprockets. New brakes and rotors. I'd imagine I saved 5k or so from what a shop would have charged for all that work.

I replaced the timing belt, water pump, power steering pump reservoir, serpentine belt, front main seal, 2 motor mounts, and VTEC solenoid gaskets on my Acura. The local shop near my house gave me an estimate over the phone just for the timing belt and water pump for $1100. Every part I changed all together probably cost $450 in parts and a weekend in the garage.

Washing machine. It's maybe a decade old, one of those smart washing machines with the extran sensors and chit, i.e. more crap that can go wrong with them.

The spin cycle wasn't working properly, so I'd be stuck with sopping wet clothes the dryer couldn't handle properly. Watched some yt videos and was worried I'd have to replace the lug nuts holding the buttom of the tub in place, would have been a big pita, but do-able. Turned out it was just a garment jammed way deep in the machine that needed to be cleared.

That was maybe half a year ago or so, haven't had any issues since then. Guarantee it would have been $200 minimum to have paid a tradie to come out and do it.

dealership wanted 5k for a rebuilt transmission for my Explorer. Found a teardown video on YT, a service manual for $20, rebuild kit on Ebay for like $250, and about $50 in fluids etc. took me literally the entire weekend though. Damn theres a lot of parts in an automatic transmission

how the fk is the spinning bearings not needing replaced? My nice washing machine is about 3 years old and its making a chit load of noise on the spin cycle.

I do a lot of basic car maintenance. I replaced my front and rear brake pads and rotors, that was a big one. The shops around me who told me I needed to replace them ~2 years before they were due, wanted to charge me over $1400 parts + labor. I ended up doing it 100% myself for maybe $500 total, parts, labor, tools, etc.

damn son props for doing your timing belt service. That chit scares the fuk outta me so I have no problem taking that to a dealer and paying the ridiculous price.

Probs depends on brand/quality/$ spent on the appliance on some level.

Look up the specific error code and model #, then youtube it. You might be surprised at the potential simple fixes it could need (unless you already did that and are sure the bearings are definitely the problem). If it is the bearings, make sure you put that special forever glue chit on them they make specifically to keep those fukkkkers held extra tight in place to minimize loosening over time so you don't have to worry about it as much.

O2 sensor went bad. I figured fukk it, I'll just pay some tradie $120 or whatever.

They wanted $550 for the part + $250 to install lmao. So I bought the part for $60 and did it myself in 20 minutes.

Repair shops are absolutely shameless these days.

Too much to count. From rebuilding a basement to rebuilding engines. But coincidentally, i have to replace my rear ABS sensors too, after hitting a curb on the left side.

Just so you know, you are suppose to change the both at the same time. Something about them having to synchronize. At least on my car anyway.

Lol wut. That's not true at all. I replaced one which turned the light off and been fine since. The whole point of ABS is to detect unsynchronised wheel movement.
