Stocks to invest in

Advice? I have a small amount of money to invest and was thinking some penny stocks but I don't really want to lose everything I invest.

Texas Pacific Land (TPL) is a very interesting stock that I held for a while this year.

Gonna take more than pennies to buy some.

Look into semiconductors. It's a cyclical industry that obviously isn't going anywhere and I think we're nearing the bottom of the cycle. Look at Microns earnings call and you'll see they're forecasting to see an increase in demand again starting in H2 2023. Even though they reported a horrible quarter (and I mean HORRIBLE quarter), the stock didn't sink that much because of the guidance, which tells me we're close to a bottom. I'm not necessarily suggesting to buy $MU, but $SOXX has already fallen a lot, so the downside risk is low at this point and worth a gamble now IMO.

That's if you want a riskier pick. The most responsible answer is if you have to ask, build up a nice base in $VOO or $VTI and start looking at individual stonks/sectors once you've followed the markets for a while, understand your risk tolerance, etc.

I remember seeing that. Was the crypto guy that was basically begging and telling people to buy certain coins that would moon and alluded to them making millions?

Just buy an index fund. There's still no price discovery in this market, every stock just moves up and down in lockstep together and the underlying business doesn't matter. So just bet the field.

He would constantly make threads pumping this dumb penny stock. Some company that I'm not even sure existed in a physical space. I got in a few protracted e-fights with him lol, but of course at least a handful of miscers couldn't resist the prospect of getting rich quick and bought in.

Then one day the stock tanks down to nothing and pump and dump brah is nowhere to be found.

Okay this is a different one, then. Only fooking miscers would fall for that chit. Want to find that thread and read through it.

The one I was thinking of was that guy telling everyone to buy some crypto coin last year and was going nuts telling people and laughing at miscers not buying in. It eventually basically crashed and burned and I don't think he ever posted again.

Coke (KO).

Buffet has held it for decades. People always gonna need something to drink - and they own a ton of brands.

Also decent dividends.

Energy maybe. Should at least be okay in the long term. From what I've read energy companies haven't been investing in new projects because of government regulations and ESG investment criteria. Could be that there will be continued pressure on supply via artificial constraints [Russian sanctions], but if demand destruction due to inflation and job losses continue then that could balance out.

Defense related industries seems as safe a bet as anything.

And I just read a post which claimed that Pelosi is heavily invested in this funeral industry stock- Matthews International Corporation.

She seems to do well for herself.
