I don't know much about Chinese unis, but I'm sure they have many just as good as MIT and Cambridge.

It's very simple, most engineering courses are not all that different. Any real difference only happens at PHD level. China has far more engineering graduates and focus on engineering.

The sheer numbers are more important than this notion of elite schools (I say that as someone who went to the top ranked programme in the UK).

At PHD level it's the same again, having a large number of PHDs is more important than a small number at 'highly' rated schools.

Your notion of the most innovative or advanced nations are just your perception of the world and are not based on anything concrete (you have certain biases, especially towards the US). My perception is that China is up there as one of the most technologically advanced country and ahead of most western nations. Although I am familiar with the high number of graduates they have, the alrge number of PHDs and the developments they;ve made in numerous advanced fields. However, perhaps my perception is also wrong.

To the whole engineering topic: The universities here in germany are full of chinese students that want to learn german engineering. I don't know a single german student that went to china to study engineering. I've spoken to countless chinese students here in germany and they've said that it doesn't matter the grades or how good/bad you are at your field, if you studied engineering at a german university, you're guranteed to get a top position in a chinese company later because everybody's mirin' over there.

That's because Germans don't speak Chinese retard. Chinese learn English and German schools often teach in English. Ever notice how the Chinese kids are all better than you? Why do you think that is?

The reality is the Chinese are progressing at such a rapid pace that they will ecliopse everyone else. The Chinese have over 1 million engineering graduates per year, which is unprecedented.

People always think of politics, but it wasn't the politician that proivided human development it was the engineer.

Unlike most of these guys I spent years in a big university region (multiple top unis). I met a lot of Chinese students and trust me when I tell you they are far more advanced than anything we're producing our end. I used to live with a Chinese girl who was doing a PHD in machine learning & AI. I would be playing video games and i'd walk into the front room and she'd be spending all day developing machine learning code.
