Russia's economy did better than the West expected, The Economist

The anti-Russian sanctions have been really tough, but Russia has achieved a record current account surplus of $220 billion this year—twice as much as a year earlier, The Economist says

The inflow of foreign currency has helped Russia finance imports. Many Western firms have stopped selling goods and services to Russia. But companies in other parts of the world are happy to help: Chinese companies, for example, have already stepped up. And Turkey seems to have become an intermediary for Western companies to circumvent sanctions. After the sharp spring decline, Russian imports have largely recovered.

Real economic data show an alarming picture for the West: “the Russian economy is in better shape than the West expected when it imposed its sanctions, while Europe, crushed by sky-high energy prices, is sliding into recession,” The Economist concludes.

Happy News Years, everyone...
Good post. It's very clear that the Russian economy is far more robust than the retard crew stated.

I said all along this war iss as much an American war on Europe as it is a war against Russia.

Europe is paying the price for an idiotic aggresive American foreign policy.

what percentage of russias economy is reliant on oil&gas export? what percentage of global market for import of oil&gas do western nations represent? ill let you guys put 1 and 1 together on that.
That's not how the oil and gas economy works.

If westerners stop buying Russian Oil & Gas it raises the prices of none Russian Oil & Gas, which means some customers get priced out of the market, they will then have to source from Russia or elsewhere.

Westersn won't buy Iranian, Russian or Venezuelan oil and gas, three of the biggest producers. So it goes without saying Europe will pay more not non-western purchasers.

Oh and the russian gdp contraction this year not being as bad as predicted… any chance that could be due to the incredible volatility in the energy markets? Volatility which is being corrected.
They were reliant on western sales. They still are for prosperity, not survival. It will take them some time to reach prosperity looking east.

The entire point is that if all sanctions implode over a peace deal their original export increases to 150% instantly and in the coming years to 200% or greater.

I'm far from pro-Russian so the thought of a decade of war footing combined with the high probability of massive wealth streams headed to Russia frightens me. It will lead to world War no matter the case, especially if a parallel independant market is created that aims at removing the dollar as the reserve currency.

It looks like it will happen and I also think we may escalate while Russia/China is at their weakest right now in comparison to their future in the next 100 years.

Its a market, a global market. The reason why you see spikes in pricing when theres conflict in or near o&g producers or sanctions imposed is the same reason why the russian economy hasnt been as bad as predicted. Market volatility in this situation benefits the producers.

However, that volatility doesnt last forever. The market stabilizes, like we’re already seeing.

OPEC, which Russia is a member, sets the prices. Pumping a trillion dollars into the EU to offset customer energy costs along with the use of the US strategic reserves only brings a false stability. Neither are permanent.

While Russians struggle to keep wealth from leaving the country and completely manipulate their currency, which is also temporary and doomed to failure, they'll aim to survive that balance when oil shoots towards a potential 150 a barrel.

Like I said, it's stupid. All of it.

Russia isn't manipulating, and they have kept their inflation quite low. It's the EU manipulating with price caps. Russia holds the cards. These sanctions will backfire miserably.

Lmfao why would oil go to 150? The global economy is the biggest factor setting oil prices, not OPEC.

It's analysis based on conditions, not predictions. It takes IQ rather than just relying on "in your face" comments you provide.

Once electricity and then air defense is countered, expect old school bombing runs that will be unstoppable.

Has anyone else "predicted" that? I can see it plain as day with the increase of missile defense being targeted.

They certainly are with export controls because they have to. It's semantics really but foreign investment is the leverage to tamp runs. That wealth cannot be sustained permanently.

And the price caps are an attempt that has not come to head.

Ukraine is getting more and more air defense and if we can believe the stats, 90%+ is getting shot down. Also Ukraine has proven it can repair critical infrastructure fast and efficient.

Look I would've believed you in January that Urkaine would not stand a chance against Russia but holy fck Ruzzia has proven to be extremely incompetent in almost every area, I don't understand how you can't see that.

If Ruzzia was that good as your cope analysis then why did Russia lose in Kiev? Lose in Kharkiv? Lose in Kherson and after 4+ months now still not able to capture a small city like Bakhmut?

Yes luckily western leaders knew what would happen if we cut off Russia so they over stocked on reserves. The fact that they had to do that to keep things stable should clue even the retard crew into what will happen when those reserves run out. Luckily they're already rolling back the sanctions/price caps on Russian gas.

We have just seen Europeans completely cut out Russian Oil & Gas, that means they will pay more for non-Russian oil and gas. Neutral countries benefit because they will now get the cheaper Russian Oil & Gas. Assuming Russia has the means to transport it.

You seem to be wrapping many thoughts into a single stream.

Either NATO supplement is keeping Ukraine in the fight or it isn't. Ukraine is not an incapable or incompetant combatant with nato and all of the support that comes with it meaning strategy, equipment, and intelligence. So you have two very capable forces clashing, neither are incompetent.

Just as Ukraine would have been quickly rolled up without NATO support, Russia started the conflict small and agile in comparison to the growing force. The entire intention of the Russian force was to quickly seized and tuck into a defensive posture which is why they sustained (comparable) low casualties. NATO proved to be a worthy multiplier and in response, Russia has responded with a larger military presence.

Make no mistake, this is escalating to an all out war. Another Russian mobilization signals more than you'd realize. This mobilization setting in now reaches parody. A true force on force, another signals their intent to completely destroy Ukraine which will also increase chances of a world war.

I have said from the very start this would head this direction if us as the west chose this route.

I think we're at the point of no return tbh.

All of you should get into the best physical and mental shape possible.

It is robust, because they have low sovereign debt and huge natural resources.

It is not like western countries who have very high sovereign debt and rely on services.

They did rise significantly.

Over a 3 year period the low was $24.81 for Brent Crude in April 2020.

The high was $122 in May 2022. That is five times more expensive for Brent Crude for the pre-war low, to the during conflict high.

So because of europe having stocked on reserves the global gas price is pre war level? Ok LOL, there are other more important facts that determine the gas price.

Biggest factor for gas going back up is China, they import massive amounts of LNG.

I've only predicted the fall of Bahkmut in December/January time frame.

Otherwise I comment on real time battles.

No one can ever find me being wrong because I'm not an absolutist. I also give credit to Ukraine when I see them perform.

We were all correct in our general assessment at the start in general military capability.

We disagree about Kiev and those I can support.
Kherson was a retreat without opposition.
Kharkov was a clever and successful move on a paper thin line.

Otherwise Russia is back to artillery walking onto adversarial position in addition to massive missile attacks on air defense and infrastructure.

These are my positions.

The more observation based ones are 30k v 100-150k Russia v Ukraine kia.
