Boyoooooosss, coffee tastes bitter as ****kkkkkk all of a sudden

As per my previous thread, where I shared I have all the ****en symptoms of covid but might have bac/viral pneumonia (waiting on chest x-ray), I didnt think I had any taste/smell symptoms

I do ground coffee in a bag and brew it like tea as it is very convenient and use a kettle to boil water (the coffee is good tasting though); I switch out this with White Monsters but wanted to go back to coffee

The coffee all of a sudden tastes bitter and has a diminished smell (not a bad one). This is for a 5 consecutive days now.

But still, I have done one blood antibody test which was negative and have done a ****ton of rapid flows all negative

Eliminated other variables by:

1) Buying a second pack from a different store to randomize things

2) Brewing 2 more cups

3) There are two brands who do coffee this way in the UK, I just finished 2 cups of the other brand

Same results...

Only thing left is to wait for my flatmate to wake up so I can use his nespresso machine to see if maybe my kettle releases some taste due to hard water or something

Or both brands use the same supply chain of coffee and chose a ****ty robusta bitter cheap bean - highly unlikely srs

do have a cough as well as feeling feverish

my mouth feels kinda like when you burn it and the taste buds are gone for a few days after that

Whatever it is hope you feel better soon.

I believe there is a lot of respiratory junk circulating ATM:

- influenza A

- RSV

- covid

I just saw there is a new-ish variant increasing in prevalence.




Not saying that's what's up...just wonder how much the virus has to change before the tests are even less useful.


The good news is the treatment is still rest, fluids, maybe some extra vitamin C. If you want to add zinc, or an anti-viral of some type that shouldn't hurt either.

ngl really confused, pneumonia and common cold dont affect the mouth like that

got a chest x ray done that should tell me more next week

Quick on getting the chest xray, do people actually go to the doctor first sign of feeling unwell? Self diagnose crew checkin in..

But yeah something is going around, the medicine aisles of stores are packed full of people and lots of products sold out.

You probably have a cold or some feverless low grade flu. You'll make it brah. I'm going through the same right now, 2 neg covid tests too

Don't stress too much OP, change in taste buds was my main symptom when I had covid, everything tasted like chit except for plain baked potatoes still tasted good

It came right again after a couple of weeks, you will come right too ☺️

Just see it as an easy way to shred

Take zinc to help get back your taste and smell. I had this weird migraine thing a month ago or so that had me bed ridden for two days. My nose had this weird burning smell and it ruined the smell and taste of a lot of things for like a week. I started taking zinc gluconate and within 4 days it was gone. Zinc is highly connected with smell.

So I just saved you from some hell boyo. Start taking zinc now.

I take these every 2 hours the second I start feeling weird. I think it helps curbing the illness a bit.

Interesting.

Careful with zinc tho. It's easy to go overboard, I have before. Research how much copper you need to go with it if it's gonna be a long term supp for you.

I don't take any supps or vitamins. I do have some purely for deficiency symptoms or sickness. So the zinc I only took for 1 week, 50mg a day, which ends up being about 15-25mg because of absorption rate. That's barely anything tbh but enough to have a positive effect.

Well there's a zinc deficiency still. Zinc is specifically used to help issues with smell. So if you actually have issues, then take zinc as a direct supplement.

I'd say give it time and don't do anything. If you were sick you're likely to recover and chit will go back to normal. If you change anything that didn't need to be changed cos you were just sick you might make the situation worse.

How about some obvious things:
Clean pot?
What kind of water?

Maybe it's tempting to say your pot is clean, but seriously check it out. My woman cleans everything once a week with vinegar and I swear Monday coffee is the best. When she skips it I can fukkin tell srs.

With regards to water, use distilled or purified. City water has chlorine or chloramine, and minerals. All of which fuk up your coffee. Maybe you've used it in the past no prob, those minerals build up tho. Also cities routinely dump extra chlorine/chloramine after storms. On top of that perhaps your water source has been affected. I'm a soda fountain tech and have seen all sorts of random crazy chit-just last week some moron took a torch to copper to unfreeze some pipes, fukked up everything down the line. Have seen something as simple as an improper o-ring in CO2 system giving off just enough VOCs to foul the carbonated water.

Fine, fine.

To be fair, the daily multi I take has it as Oxide form which is inferior absorption-wise compared to Gluconate.

Just hopeful it is not something that will last, whatever the cause.

Although no ****en sign it is actually Covid. Although my flatmate told me he had this taste symptom with negative tests for 3 days, and then it was positive.

A quick sprinkle of salt in the grounds before brewing will make a world of difference. srs

You can buy the cheapest generic brand they sell and once you add that pinch of salt it will taste good.
