for those of you that have learned a new language, how did you do it?

I'm trying to kick my language learning into high gear. No more excuses/being a bitch.

I use Duolingo and it's good. I'm curious as to any other resources people have successfully used.

I thought podcasts would be great but it just hasn't been a good fit for me.

I took in person classes.

I've never met a single person who learned a language using software or online, beyond some very basic vocabulary and maybe verb conjugation. Not one. I think it's all a scam.

Engulf yourself in the language, read news in it, listen to music in it, watch movies in it, everything.

If you start dreaming in the language then you're doing it right.

I speak spanish French and I’m picking up German. I got French from school and it’s pretty much the same as Spanish and I learned Spanish from reading a book on the toilet and I’m learning German from music

Date a foreigner and supplement with media or apps
I have learnt passable Japanese, Spanish and Indonesian this way

A lot of streaming services let you choose the audio language and the subtitles language. Set everything you want to watch to the language you are trying to learn.
