Intermittent fasting Brahs...

How long do you fast for?

And what benefits did you see in IF compared to normal CICO?

I started with 16/8 for a week. Then 18/6. Now I'm trying 20/4. If I can keep this up, I'll bump it up next week.

The cravings get strong after 14 hrs but I keep myself going by counting down the hours. Also, I can tell it's just a craving and my body doesn't need food.

But I do feel weak or lethargic around the 16 hr mark even if I'm hopped up on caffeine.

Seems easier than plain CICO.

Been pursuing an IF lifestyle for a bit over a decade. Used to be 12pm-8pm window and now it's more like 11am-6pm. I usually eat 2 large meals at both extremes of the window and something in the afternoon. I really like it. It's fully become engrained in my lifestyle.

Get's easier the longer you do it. Try smooching on some sea salt during the fast to make it slightly easier.

It can be called the Skipping Breakfast diet but that doesn’t sound as sexy as Intermittent Fasting. Weekly CICO is still what matters. You can have all the different eating windows you want however in the big picture if you have no weekly deficit it won’t matter
If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough

Started with 16/8 and now do 20/4. Works well for me. Also funny when I get randomly selected for labs and they are like, "come back tomorrow when you're fasted" and I'm like, "lol I am fasted."

CICO is a joke

eat breads, cheese, ice cream, crackers roasted in seed oils you'll see a massive difference in body fat between that and clean grains like millet/brown rice, eggs, rice, salmon, vegetables

just eat breakfast and lunch then fast until the next day. follows the ideal circadian rhythm and you'll have better sleep

It's CICO in disguise. It's another tool in the toolbox for dieting, which is a good thing imo.

It's just skipping breakfast for me, stop eating at 8PM, don't eat until 11AM the next day.

I think a lot of the benefits attributed to IF/TRF including cancer prevention, cardiorespiratory, Alzheimer's, lifespan etc. are overstated VS the benefits obtained by regular CICO and maintaining a healthy BMI. IF/TRF is a tool to use but it's not a magical cure-all like some zealots would have you believe.

I used to do IF all the time when I was cutting. 16 fast / 8 feeding window. I'd eat from noon - 8pm. Made it easier to make my calorie total for the day work. It was no big deal being hungry for a few hours in the morning when I knew I was gonna be chowing down on a massive lunch to break the fast.

I listened to a podcast recently that talked about IF and a lot of the benefits & perceived benefits. One thing i found really interesting was that both the host (scientist) and his guest (not scientist) mentioned the mental clarity and focus they both noticed when fasting. The host attributed it to all the resources your body is diverting to your gut to digest / process food.
He also mentioned that the fasting period is a change for your body to break down and use up other sh!t in your system.

This will always be a highly debated topic, same as any other diets or workout schemes. If it works for you, awesome, keep doing it, if it doesn't, do something else. There's no one size fits all

I eat at 2 and again at 5, for no reason other than its less dishes to clean than 6 meals a day. Haven't eaten today though because I misinterpreted when I get paid so definitely won't be sticking to that tomorrow jfl

You can eat those things you mentioned however no weekly deficit, no fatloss. And yes you can also include those "demon foods" you mention.

It became my defacto mode of eating. For health and metabolism reasons, cycling in and out of keto is more important than being on keto. Your metabolism raises as your mitochondria increase in number in response.

i'm hoping to make it a lifetime habit too.

there a lot of comments online about >16 hr fast being harmful for women...periods becoming irregular, hair falling out, etc. how common is that?

not familiar with these mental clarity feels. but i want to try a 24 hr fast soon. maybe next week and if that's doable then, i'll up the hours just to experience such a long fast. the longest i've ever gone without eating is 21 hours.

fifth week, down 12lbs. not sure how much is water weight.

went from 16 to 18 to 20 to 20.5, now at 21 hr fasts. will work up 22/2 for a week, then try a longer fast like 36 hrs.

I do 23/1 fasts without even trying. I guess it's just been easy for me. I don't wake up super hungry and often have my first meal between 5-8pm and have a really big meal.

I haven't been so strict lately, like I'll have a latte in the day, but IF is great.

I found I had more energy throughout the day on IF than I did when I was eating 3 meals a day. There's an adjustment period to be sure, but once you get used to it you'll find you have way more energy. Especially if you were eating carb heavy meals and carb crashing 3 times a day.
