Lol yeah went ice skating once when I was 10 for a bro's Birthday party (ded fcking srs). I did fall backwards, landed on my hands like you're not supposed to, and broke my wrist. I haven't done it since. I used to skateboard and that was a fukton safer, even without a helmet

But being srs I can skate like a God but I learned to play hockey when I was three
People who learn as adults never reach the same skill level
But at minimum you should learn how to be functional

How to learn how to ice skate:
1. Learn how to roller blade (which is much easier) first. This will make it 10x easier and you'll be feeling alright by the end of your first time on the ice.
2. Buy a nice pair of hockey ice skates. Don't waste your time on the dainty chit, those are for figure skaters doing performances, not people just looking to enjoy ice skating for any other reason.
If you can't manage #1 then just suck it up and be fine with looking slightly douchey for a bit while you get the hang of it while using one of those walker assist things they have for ice skating learners at any legit indoor ice rink business during their open skating times. Also, if you can, go with a friend who knows how to ice skate well and is fine with sticking by you will you learn.

I remember the first time I ever rollerbladed...I was in my 20's. My gf bought me a pair and expected me to be all unbalanced so she could laugh at me, but...
...I grew up playing ice hockey, so she was pretty disappointed.

I had prefaced getting on the ice by telling everyone it was my first time. They were so confused (and I was surprised) when I could instantly go fast, lean into sharp turns, stop on a dime, skate backwards, etc. They all thought I was lying about it being my first time.

It’s fun. And a go to intro dates for me if I’m taking a new girl out. Get to break out my ice skates too. Look like I know what I’m doing.
I play inline hockey too. Inline skating is similar but not the same and will hinder your ability to fully use your edges if you take your inline stride to ice. The foundation is the same though and unless you’re playing competitive hockey you could get away with learning on inline then jumping to ice.
