Koreans or Japanese

Japan picked the worse time in History to try to be colonizers and build an empire (WWII). I'm sure in theory they thought it was a good time. They were ready. Etc. But they picked the wrong allies. Fukked with the USA. And got decimated and put into their place by the USA.

After WWII we began witnessing the death of colonial rule across the world. In theory it was America's turn to forge a massive empire but we decided to just go home and chill.

If you explore Google street in Japan or wherever, their streets and houses aren't impressive at all. A lot of ugliness. Compared to most of America's infrastructure. But they way they rebuilt after the tsunami is impressive.

If Japan hadn’t gone full Leroy Jenkins and bombed Pearl Harbor they would have probably been left alone and would have owned China by now.

The Japanese empire was ruthless.

What I don’t get is why absolute brutal armies like the Huns or the Mongols didn’t conquer West? It seems all of Asia was busy trying to own each other, and meanwhile the Europeans took the rest of the globe.

America isn't a traditional empire. It has never been identified as an empire. At least, not in comparison with any other in history.

Do we 'own' any of the countries we've fought? Is our president the authority/leader of any of those countries? Are those countries ruled by an American governor/military/police force? Do American citizens have free use of the countries we've fought/defeated? Etc.

The answer is no. We may meddle in foreign affairs, give aid to foreign countries, etc. but we don't insert our president as their leader. We don't have absolute control over them/their politics.

In order for for a traditional empire we'd need to be installing American politicians/governors to rule after our conquest and an American military/police force being installed to enforce American rule/law.

That is not what we do. We put locals in power. Encourage democracy. Etc. then leave and hope our influence remains. (It never does) Its why our war record is so ****ed. Its not that we can't 'win' wars. We just don't bother trying to forge an empire.

The Hunnic and Mongol empires were held together by the will of one man and couldn't last beyond their deaths. That's not true of European colonial empires.
