A single engineer who made a mistake lol, and the reboot system needing to take 90 minutes

This engineer "replaced one file with another" and never noticed his mistake. Tech bros wtf are y'all doing out there just replacing files and not telling anyone?? You already know that engineer was like "fukkkkkk" after he realized he wiped out that data

I want answers tech bros cause my day was busy as hell after it got back up and running, when eit was supposed to be a chill day

People aren’t perfect, and there are lots of safeguards in place(or should be) to prevent those types of things. Still, there will always be random issues when dealing with people and computers. Just look at the Microsoft issue from this morning. “Oh…my bad. Our update just recognized all .lnk files as malicious so lots of your apps probably got gone if you clicked your shortcut.”





Cliffs- the world is a lot more fragile than people want to realize

Redundancy can get $$ so companies will sometimes skip it and just "trust" tech bros to not make a mistake

You typically have Ops and Change teams. You are given a certain time period in which you are authorised to do your deployments/updates/changes by change and you need to complete some paperwork on what you're changing, backout plan etc. Thus when **** breaks it is easy to know what was being changed, if anything was changing in the environment at the time to ease identifying the issue and if needed how the change can be backed out.

Such is the life of C-Suite people. In their defense, when someone comes to you and goes “we need to spend six figures on solution A so that way if someone on our team messes up we’ll be covered” it’s a hard sell. They’ll just reply with “well then don’t mess up”. Same issue in security, though it is getting much better on this side because people now are scared sh!tless of ending up in the news with leaked data.

What airline you fly out of now? Im assuming a regional and that pay increase probably feeling pretty good right about now.
