I had a guy slam a door in my face yesterday, and he most certainly saw me behind him.

Glad, I didn't spill my scalding hot coffee on myself.

Some people in society, one too many quite frankly lack any sense of decency or consideration. More than likely they were not taught basic manners or were super coddled when they were young, so they don't think they should acknowledge others kind gestures.

Try your best to ignore those types, and focus on the ones who are thankful and appreciative.

In some cases, people may be burnt out or too socially unaware to react, and they don't mean to not acknowledge your greeting or gesture.
it's better to suck dink than to be killed

"My outer appearance was poor, but in this way my inner world became richer than anyone else's. Was it not natural that a young boy who suffered from an indelible drawback like mine should have come to think that he was a secretly chosen being? I felt as though somewhere in this world a mission awaited me of which I myself still knew nothing." --Yukio Mishima

A lot of it can be attributed to solicitors/sales people. I remember when i was a kid, somebody knocked on the door and my dad would answer and talk to them for a while. Occasionally someone would be trying to sell encyclopedias or a vaccuum. Somewhere along the line literally everyone that comes to your door is trying tomsell you something or scam you, or worse! So people just don’t even bother answering. I even bought a “No Soliciting” sign and I STILL get solicitors ringing the bell. Even had some moron try to argue when i pointed to the sign, he tried saying “I’m not soliciting!! I am trying to save you money by <insert sales spiel here>

I think people should be courteous to one another. I held the door open for a hbb on my way out from the gym in toronto of all places over the holidays and the woman couldn't believe it and said she didnt think guys like me existed anymore

that being said I hate excessive small talk with people I see on a regular basis. I dreaded going into work today knowing I was going to be asked how my holidays were 50 times

I used to be a fairly social person but I'm not anymore because of this

Has nothing to do with you. We're living in a low-trust society, thanks to mass-immigration, combined with coronavirus/lockdown nonsense. Social contracts do not exist anymore. Stock up on guns and ammo. Now.

You never know when you will talk to a nutjob that's why...

Teacher reveals how a man she was polite to at a restaurant STALKED her for THREE MONTHS, saying he tracked down her email and showed up at her school claiming to be an 'old friend'

A woman has opened up about how she was stalked by a random man for three months after being polite to him in a restaurant, saying he showed up at her workplace twice claiming to be an 'old friend.'

Patty Brem, 44, from California, shared her terrifying story on Twitter last month as a warning to both men and women. The teacher explained that the stranger tracked her down after she naively told him what high school she worked at.

'This experience has forever changed how I will act with strangers,' she told BuzzFeed. 'I will never give out personal information, even if it seems innocent. I feel like I will always have my guard up from here on out, rather than willingly being friendly.'

The Zoomers have AirPods in so it's next to impossible to have a conversation with them. I try to do small talk with them but they look annoyed that they have to take their AirPods out.

It's so bizarre to me being from Gen X.

My daughter is very social so she isn't like her generation, thankfully!

This is not my experience out in the real world at all OP.

Maybe it's just you. Maybe you're not approachable, or look mean or whatever. Maybe you are the one avoiding eye contact etc.

Most people say thank you if I hold the door for them. People hold the door for me.

You tend to get what you put out into the world dude, or view the world from your own mental outlook.
If you're positive, you'll see more positives, if you're negative, you'll see more negatives, etc.

I've lived in my current home for close to a decade now, and I can count on one hand how many times I've had salesmen come knocking on my door. One was some oldcel shilling cable TV packages, and another was a storm chaser a year ago trying to rope me into signing an agreement to let his scam company do the work. I firmly told both of them I'm not interested, though I did get a nice new roof put on by my own local roofing company funded by my insurance payout. I guess there was a time or two when mormons were trying to push their religion onto me, but that was years ago too.

And I live in a residential neighborhood in a decent sized city. I always wonder where these people live who say they constantly get bombarded by door to door salesmen. I almost never see them.

Stupid bitch tells random strange men in public where she works, and it eventually goes wrong when she tells some dude who turned out to be a nut case about it... fascinating story.

People are always trying to talk to me. Y'all need to be more like me.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
