Yeah, I don't know why some so vehemently oppose the concept.

Labeling it a "disease" (which many in the medical and scientific community agree that it is) doesn't necessarily = using that label as an excuse to just continue doing it. People want to paint it as that equals "woe is me it's a disease, I can't help it so I'll just continue drinking" - which is kind of a silly.

Alcohol is a scourge. In 2020, more people in the U.S. died from alcohol (12,000 from accidents caused by alcohol and 52,000 from effects of alcoholism -cirrhosis, liver cancer, acute alcohol poisoning, etc) than from guns (45,000) -- yet alcohol is just outright accepted, encouraged, embraced by society, and it's rare to see people in authority talking about the various negative effects of it. And those are just deaths I cited -- how many more people are maimed, paralyzed, lose their families, lose their jobs, get a permanent criminal record, etc etc each year??? Countless people.

The field of psychology is riddled with all kinds of self/agenda-serving bullchit "peer-reviewed" studies, fyi. Not to discredit all of it, because I don't, but the genetic links to addiction issues are vastly overstated. It is largely a learned coping mechagnism through generations witnessing those before them do it on a regular basis, so they get into too. The fact that society normalizes it to the extent that it does is exactly what makes it so easy for people to make endless bs excuses about it.

Plus, someone from the field literally just agreed with me itt, and you rebuffed him by calling him stupid too. So your appeals to authority are very biased and self-serving on a convenice based basis.

Government banning it will only make things get worst however I will say that society would be better off if it didn't exist, but it does, so there's that. I've watched it destroy so many people, I don't drink. I might have a drink rarely, but it's for the flavor, I don't drink to get fukd up.

Yep. So many problems are directly due to alcohol.

I drink half of a bottle every night. 90 seconds of a pour. Each 4 seconds equals 1 shot. So I have the equivalent of 22 shots. I'm a happy drunk tho.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Have you seen the drinking culture in the Midwest? Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, the Dakotas are all loaded with seasoned, proud alchies who go through a couple cases of beer a on a slow drinking week, can't go to bed without having a good stiff drink first at a minimum, etc.

And that is why any attempts at removing it will never work.
Can u prove it didn't work at reducing rates?
Do you have historical data for Netherlands?

I don't think the powers that be really care about a healthy population, tbh, so I don't see something like this happening. Dumb, distracted, subservient is what they want, plus a population addicted to things that require costly medical care.

I don't care if they want to push ad campaigns. Banning it is a bridge to far though. People should be free to make their own bad decisions.
Freedom of speech is a principle pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved and tyranny is erected on its ruins.

There's a lot of alcoholism on my dad's side (he nearly drank himself to death multiple times), and at least an Irish great grandfather on my mom's side who was one.

My dad got sober before I was even born, so I obviously never saw him drink and he's sent a very anti alcohol message in my life. I've never witnessed any other relatives actively doing it (though my dad's youngest brother drank himself to death, and was a great and successful guy). Again, none of that is an excuse to not get sober.

With that said - you don't seem to know what you're talking about, but want to insist that you do, and again...are just here to jerk yourself off. A year sober isn't that long to have such a know it all attitude, so while I'm not at all wishing it upon you, your hubris may lead you back...

Lol @ those stats, especially from a time of lockdowns. And no I don't have data, I see it irl. The fact that they're still doing campaigns now should tell you that it didn't eradicate alcohol (ab)use, not even close.

Minimum age for drinking alcohol legally used to be 16 (it's 18 now) and half the kids started earlier. Binge drinking every weekend from, conservatively speaking, the age of 16. Great?

Anyway I believe it won't change for the reasons I stated. It's the prime legal coping agent that's given to keep people sedated enough.

Again, the goal is not to eradicate alcohol abuse. The goal is to reduce it via a low cost measure. Even minor improvements would be amazing given the low cost of an ad campaign.

Please.

That's junk science based on illogical causation reasoning. That's called, Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc.

Alcohol is classified as a poison and you must introduce it into the body, then the body reacts to it, which has nothing to do with genes.

Different responses to poison is an accident of the person's genetic structure it's not an intention of the genetic structure.

People a 100,000 years ago didn't have to adapt to alcohol, so there's no evolutionary organization of our genes to adapt to the substance.

You did not read the study or understand how to critique a study and you just posted it to feel superior.
