It was easy for all of us to disappear. My house was in my mother-in-law’s name. My cars were registered to my wife. My social security cards and driver’s licenses were phonies. I never voted. I never paid taxes. My birth certificate and my arrest sheet, that’s all you’d ever have to know I was alive. See, the hardest thing for me was leaving the life. I still love the life. And we were treated like movie stars with muscle. We had it all, just for the asking. Our wives, mothers, kids, everybody rode along. I had paper bags filled with jewelry stashed in the kitchen. I had a sugar bowl full of coke next to the bed. Anything I wanted was a phone call away. Free cars. The keys to a dozen hideout flats all over the city. I bet twenty, thirty grand over a weekend and then I’d either blow the winnings in a week or go to the sharks to pay back the bookies. Didn’t matter. It didn’t mean anything. When I was broke I would go out and rob some more. We ran everything. We paid off cops. We paid off lawyers. We paid off judges. Everybody had their hands out. Everything was for the taking. And now it’s all over. That’s the hardest part. Today everything is different. There’s no action. I have to wait around like everyone else. Can’t even get decent food. Right after I got here I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce and I got egg noodles and ketchup. I’m an average nobody. I get to live the rest of my life like a schnook.

It should’a been perfect...But in the end... we f**ked it all up. It should have been so sweet, too, but it turned out to be the last time that street guys like us were ever given anything that f**kin’ valuable again.

On average people in the South of Italy tend to be a little darker featured than the ones in the North but generally the people look the similar throughout all of Italy. Plenty of Southern Italians and Sicilians look exactly the same as Northern Italians and vice versa and the genetics aren’t much different.

For example Sicilian guys like Vincent Gallo and John Travolta fit perfectly all throughout Italy and even in France, Al Pacino is Sicilian and can just as easily fit in Central and North Italy. Same can be said for Southern Italians like James Gandolfini and Vincent D'Onofrio, Vincent could even fit in Germany and Northern Europe. He played Thor in a movie.

Michael Imperioli who played Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos and has a more stereotypical ethnic look is central Italian descent.

A lot of people generalize Italians. The biggest differences between North Italians and South Italians/Sicilians is there is a greater component of Greek DNA in the South Italy and Sicily, and some small amounts of Balkan Albanian/Illyrian DNA. While North Italy has more Northwestern European influence. But there is also a significant Northwestern European component in Sicilians as well.

There was a short period of time in the WASP dominated American south that the definition of whiteness was extremely exclusive and strict and completely ridiculous. I have paperwork from my Sicilian and Southern Italian family members that came here in the the 1900s-1920s and they are all listed as white. But they immigrated to the Northern US, if they immigrated to the South I would imagine they would have been listed as Italian or Sicilian racially which makes little sense. But what do you expect from dumb rednecks.

Calabrians are basically the same thing as Sicilians genetically haha. The rivalries between Italians subgroups is hilarious to me. Modern Romans look down on the North, South, Sicily, and Sardinia.

Exactly and the Islamic dominance was more military than ethnic. The Normans expelled Muslims & any Muslim converts that were in Sicily, they ruled Sicily for over 100 years, Iberians and Greeks ruled for far longer than that.
