Any large amount of gold is too heavy to transport over ground. You'd be better off allocating that space and weight to carrying provisions unless you have it already stored at some remote location. Gold isn't easily divisible either. I think gold would be greatly overrated in a post-nuclear situation. You'd be better off with medicine, ammo, food, batteries, etc..
