Where I live everything has stabilized but prices are not going down much. The area I am considering buying, houses are still going in 2 days with multiple offers and half of them cash.

People from California are still coming to South Florida with cash offers. I don't plan on selling we love it here. Rent on a 1/1 apartment in this area is more than my mortgage and HOA combined...

I like the stories about people working 3-4 remote jobs unbeknownst to their other employers making like 1.2 million a year working 1-2 hours a day on each job.

what im saying lol

imagine having the so called "intelligence" to make a 6 figure salary in tech but is lacking in basic financial sense and wisdom.

then again, patience, displicine and money management are things that many people lack, regardless of income bracket.

The Reddit post reads like renter erotic literature, as is par for the course on Reddit

But in a general sense regardless, people get so caught up in rising numbers. Looking at the three other listings, those houses are still not worth anywhere near fukn $700-800k -- for a 1,400 sq ft bungalow with chitty carpet and old appliances? Just lol

For the same price converted to CAD$ I bought a borderline mansion built in 2019 on an acre of land

I was just reading how there are like 40k H1bs laid off in the seattle area in just the past month or so (mostly indians). most local tech companies are on hiring freezes and most have like a month left to find a job before they need to return to india.

blind.com has tons of threads about it.

all those people need to sell their homes asap.

it depends which area your from. realtors in my area are reporting they have seen houses getting multiple offers this month, though the actual price of the house has been stable. get yourself a good realtor, buy low sell high. i bought another house in the summer of 2021, right after i bought, the prices jumped up. i ended up renovating the house and renting it since the rental rates are so high right now. but if the market years from now goes up again i will sell. it's a good money maker for now.

research the market and be patient. this reddit guy did not do his homework and now hes ****ed. the best thing he can do now is just hold onto the house and wait for the market to recover and then sell

Meh. That's life. But his payment will be stable for the next 25 years or whatever. Still better than renting.

It really blows my mind that guys who have the intelligence to make such a high income. Are also mentally fragile and incapable of making sound financial decisions. Especially tech workers that have the ability to work remote or work from home.

I had an energy efficient 1585sqrft 3bd 2bth house built for 196K 8 years ago. Refinanced at a super low rate so I'm locked in at $585 per month for the next 29 years. All house-hold expenses together are sub 1K per month. If my girl moves in with me (or I take a room mate) and we do split the house-hold bills. We'll both be spending less then $450 per month for all utilities/services and the house.

I can't imagine taking out a million dollar mortgage and 'feeling trapped in my home'. I on the other hand feel completely and utterly financially free. I could pay off my house in an instant if I wanted. Or just pay low monthly notes at super low interest for the next 29 years.

I may not live in NYC/Cali/Oregon/Washington. But I can live my life without being a literal slave to corporate overloads and a bank/landlord.

I've been looking at rural properties lately as well. I'd like to pick up a rural lake/river front property as a second place. Work just 3 weeks out the month in the city and spend a week per month in nature.

It's fun rentcel porn, but it doesn't reflect reality.

The grind downward will be slow. Prices are dropping at a faster rate than the GFC, but that took 4 years to hit bottom. We're really just wrapping up year 1.

As long as bonds stay elevated, QT keeps money-sucking, and boomers keep clotting, the market can only continue to move one way.

My uncle has been highly successful his entire life. Back during the Enron crash days, he decided to throw a huge chunk of his retirement into Enron when it dropped to half its value, thought it could only go up. lol.

Mortgage to income ratios hit record highs in mid 2022. Regression to the mean always happens. The question is what that looks like. Few people would have predicted the 10% national drop in prices in the second half of 2022, so predictions about 2023 by major banks are all over the place. Bank of America says two more years of declines, Goldman says just a few more months. It's wild how many people think once in a lifetime mortgage rates from the pandemic are coming back. Without another lab leak it's not happening.

There was a panic frenzy of people doing that because they wanted the lowest interest rate at ALL COST. A friend of mine is a realtor had a house listed at 1.2 Million and a bidding war made it sell $400k over asking price lol. He was literally rolling in money for the past couple years as every other house he had listed was selling for like 10% over asking price.

pretty much this.

my mortgage payment has gone up about $100 since i first got the mortgage 15yrs ago.
and that is only because of property tax increases.

same with morons that dropped 5k+ on 15yr old corolla's.
