Only the crappy ones. The good ones will quadruple their output.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

But aren't most average to below average? By that logic 70% of the field will eventually be out of a job

Exactly. The cream always rises to the top, the turds always sink to the bottom.

Eh, when you actually understand how chatGPT works, you'll see how limited it is. There's going to have to be some fundamental advances before it threatens most software engineering. People are getting laid off due to the economy right now, not the prospect of AI.

I could see it wiping out the people doing landing pages on fiverr though for sure. Or copywriters, that seems to be the most obvious business application for chatGPT.

Do other races have hate groups? Yes.
Is it a double standard? Yes.

But lets not pretend we don't know why there's a negative stigma associated with it (particularly in the US).

I'm not saying its fair, nor something it be happy about. Its quite unfortunate really. I'm just telling it like it is.

Every race the world over has done terrible things in history - whites are the only ones who have to listen to whinging for it.

That's why it's so ridiculous. There are very few people alive today who participated in any overt white supremacy nonsense.

But we have to spend our whole lives getting cucked by "white=bad" rhetoric and double standards. Completely counterproductive to making any type of race relations progress.

Even then... all these tech companies went on a hiring spree during covid and unfortunately, a lot of subpar talent also made it through (in addition to overhiring back office functions, like HR). They're just trimming the "fat" right now cause if you look at the numbers.. every one of these companies still have a net gain of employees compared to 2 yrs ago. I don't think tech is as gloomy as it seems right now (even though I feel terrible for those people).

No chance.

You still have to verify the output, actually run it, etc.

It helps with structuring code - and that is a huge time saver. Other than that, I see no real threat

You still need to learn how to code to understand code.

Twitter did that for sure. I can’t remember what the specific numbers were, but it was in the hundreds of diversity hires. Lots of dead weight. That’s what’s so ridiculous about the lawsuit against Elon for firing so many people. He said there were so many people that had no real skills and weren’t doing anything for the company. It was a giant administrative body.

This. It will take a lot of the monotonous task work out of their day allowing them to do more. Some argue it might reduce demand. More productivity, faster response, less downtime will actually make thigns more effecient. As a result, more gets done, creating even more to do.

I'd be amazing if this was utilized this efficiently. I was at a company that tried to phase out COBOL, and they've been in the process of doing it for over 30 years. It's still there in 2023.
