Hey guys. I really enjoy team shooters with objectives, not much of a team deathmatch person.

I love capture the flag, bomb objective modes or similar


Really enjoy:

Battlefield games (last 2 I played was BF4 and BF1)
Halo (getting bored, hate slayer)
Apex Legends (stopped playing over a year ago)
COD Warzone(just got annoyed with it)
COD (havent bought one in years like 5+)


So what should I get? Battlefield 2042?

Get back on Apex srs. Big changes coming on feb 14th the game is gonna be sick. I also quit for a year but came back these past few months. There's really not another shooter that is more exciting imo. I've tried them all. Splitgate is actually pretty fun but pretty low playerbase and I was dominating every game because apex skill transfers over so well, which made it too easy/somewhat boring after a while.

Apex is having its biggest update since launch next week. It's going to be a pretty fresh experience and if you already have some game time at least you aren't a total noob.

I've quit fps OP, they all suck. PUBG was the last great game and that thing is dead af and full of cheats and toxicity.

No everything started to go to chit after halo 3. Reach completely abandoned the ranking system and at that time I think EA was working on matchmaking research papers. Now competitive shooters are basically backpack/sandbag simulators. Fortnite was actually pretty damn good for a while because it didn't have a ranking system. You actually had to win. Matchmaking algorithms are now designed so that you are statistically guaranteed a set number of wins/losses/draws to keep you playing. You arent going to keep playing if you do nothing but lose. They found out if you win one game that you can lose three more, and will probably play a 4th before you get off to see if you will get a win and you might keep playing after the win.

The chasing bucks thing is true, but the rabbit hole goes much deeper into why games are absolute **** these days.

No one wants to hear it but someone has to say it; modern shooters are absolutelytrash (anything post 2006)


95% of them require no precise aim, why 1 tap the head when you can spray from 500m with little to no recoil anymore

Their skill-ceilings aren't half of what it used to be, experience, centering your cross hair, thinking, are no longer rewarded because some 14 year old can just run & spray you down

I know smart parts went under last I checked, I was shocked to see that. I'm curious how many people are actually out in the paintball fields these days. From fastest growing sport in the world to, dead huh

If you haven’t tried DMZ mode (Free to play) for the new COD I highly suggest it. It’s an extraction shooter in beta.

It’s more chill than WZ but can get intense also. They don’t explain it very well so you may want to look up some youtube videos on it.

Basically you go in with a squad and whatever gear you get you keep if you extract with it. If you die you lose your stuff. There are missions you choose to complete against enemy AI and other players on the map. I’ve basically moved over to it full time since WZ also got annoying to me. It’s more casual and tactical than just BR mode. I didn’t get it at first but after giving it a few tries I got addicted to it.

This. It’s why I couldn’t get into apex. From what I’ve seen it definitely takes skill to be good at so I’m not hating on it. I just can’t get past the characters and the TTK seems like it’s way too long to me. I’ve only played it a handful of times though. The special powers and all the dumb commentary is just a huge turn off.

The movement and guns don't have any weighted feeling to them. It;s like your floating across the map.


The abilities look like garbage and take up half the screen.

The core gameplay of shooting doesn't even feel like you're shooting.

The maps are terrible and feel wooden and hollow.


It's a terrible game, which is why its free and 12 year olds play it.

I went to apex because I got tired of games where someone can one shot snipe me from a building without me ever seeing them. Cod, Pubg, tarkov, etc.

Apex has the highest skill gap in fps currently because there's alot of tech to learn to be good. There aren't any weapons that can one shot you (aside from the care package sniper). Movement is a skill all in its own in apex. Supergliding, tapstrafing, wallbouncing, soooo much movement tech to incorporate to be better. There's entire subreddits dedicated to just movement tech in apex.

The high ttk in apex turns fights into actual skill based fights rather then who saw the other guy first or who had a better hiding spot and sniper rifle. You will take alot more head on fights and playing smart and landing your shots counts more than ever.

Apex is goated, it's just really hard for casuals to be able to get into since the skill gap is huge. Why bother getting good at a difficult game when you can play Warzone and it just holds your hand with insane aim assist, 0 movement tech, and the ability to be respawned 3-4 times in a single br game.

kek this. I remember comparing the hitbox in h4 to h3 and it was like your gun shot logs. Then in h5 they prioritized the AR and melee over precision weapons.

This was the first big shooting update if I remember correctly and your aim was your aim. Was absolutely lasering people before the update which added aim rng and damage fall off. Had like a green six shot revolver that absolutely nobody would touch and I would drop a full 4 man team with it kek. The skill ceiling in that game quickly became muddied with rng and latency and the meta was basically wack a mole edit simulator. High speed tetris more than a shooter.

But yes shooters are basically dead. Hitboxes, rng, matchmaking algorithms and theres a ton of cheaters now. Bring me back to the 2000's

I can understand why people don't like the cartoony and unrealistic aspect of it though. I personally don't like realistic shooters because they are slow and boring to me, and largely depend on reaction time/flicks. I need something more fast-paced.

For me it's CoD MW2 + Warzone 2 + DMZ. The next "shooter" games I'm looking forward to are singleplayer (Stalker 2, Starfield maybe). Nothing in the horizon of 2023 that I'm excited about for shooters unfortunately.
