New research shows CDC exaggerated the evidence for masks to fight COVID

https://chicago.suntimes.com/columni...n-jacob-sullum
That review, published by the Cochrane Library, an authoritative collection of scientific databases, analyzed 18 randomized controlled trials that aimed to measure the impact of surgical masks or N95 respirators on the transmission of respiratory viruses. It found that wearing a mask in public places “probably makes little or no difference” in the number of infections.
Here's the analysis.

Not sure why this is a surprise to anyone. Take a vape. Inhale. Put on a mask. Breathe out.

Literally all of the vapor goes through the mask. Now imagine a covid molecule being 1000x smaller than the vape molecule.

And if people say blah blah blah the covid molecule rides on water molecules and that is how people get sick?

Ok.....but the vape water molecule just went through the mask.

I think most of us that work with or around respirator safety equipment knew it was all BS from the beginning.

I forget which Dr that was on Rogan's podcast and made the claim that N95's worked because they were electrically charged to attract the molecule. Wish Jaime would have fact checked him because that is utter BS. N95's are a particulate filter mask meant for dust and pollen or non-toxic debris.

Even N95s have to be professionally fitted annually and replaced constantly. Normal people can not adhere to that strict of a mask routine. None of the people walking around with masks were doing any good -- and many of us were saying this at the time, then having studies, expert opinions and graphs shoved in our face telling us otherwise.

And, really, this research is the same thing. Who knows. In 6 months a new study or research may say something else.

This is kind of why I have been skeptical of experts and studies throughout this. I wasn't going to outright dismiss them because they hurt my feelings or anything, and I never attached to also-uncredible conspiracies in the other direction, but on this -- you listen and you kind of have to use your brain for a second.

Obviously, masks were useless, simply because normal people not in a hospital setting did not have access or the knowledge how to use appropriate measures.

Just theater.

This is why throughout this, yes I will not 100% dismiss all the graphs and studies showing the vaccines are 100% safe or 100% effective, but I have to measure that with the following:

- I am not an expert and they are
- Experts in the past have been coerced into propaganda
- These pharmaceutical companies have produced junk lying studies
- These mRNA vaccines do not have a history of success prior to these
- These mRNA vaccines were rushed faster than the normal protocols
- Pharm/Media/Tech/Govt created an environment of censorship and propaganda
- The pharmaceutical companies insisted on legal immunity over these vaccines

... so what does all this mean? Why did I lead with saying I am not an expert and they are? Because it's true and I wanted to illustrate that at the end of the day, it was a very uncertain situation. Just because the pharm companies demanded immunity, made it so nobody could safely speak out, rushed them and everything -- that doesn't mean I personally have a fuking clue about any of it.

I don't but I see all this and it made me very skeptical about everything -- including the masking protocols this this current study at least says did nothing.

And when someone pro-vaccine puts forth any graph or study 'proving' how safe or effective they are, I'm not saying it's bunk, I'm just saying I am personally going to wait and see and take it with a grain of salt. And because I want to wait and see, I looked at my own personal risk of covid and made the decision I should not get vaccinated and was not at personal risk.

Had my personal risk been higher (me being older or sicker), I'd gotten the vaccine but I had to weigh it accordingly.

Meanwhile thousands of tons of plastics containing EDCs and other harmful substances have ended up across our land and in water sources because people need a pacifier to ease their anxiety.

And Wincel still admits to wearing them “when cases are high in his area” whatever that means.

Have you ever had a respirator fitting?

It's not a complicated process. They aren't custom respirators and your size isn't likely to change every year.

No, my knowledge is second-hand from a pair of nurses I am friends with. They get fittings done and re-done annually.

It might not be rocket science but it guaranteed beyond the capacity of Average Joe Walmart. Even professional nurses have to have someone else come in and do the fitting, although they probably could do it themselves. Still, the solution is something people with 70IQs will need to be able to do.

Jesus Christ guy, you do know that even with the paper/cloth masks, people weren't putting them on correctly or wearing them correctly?

Even if regular masks worked, people struggled to even wear those correctly. Let alone a mask that needs to be fitted.

They forced vaccinations that didn’t stop transmission. They forced mask types that don’t stop covid transmission. We need to start treating leftists for what they are-either draconian authoritarians who don’t care about efficacy, or brain dead morons. I guess those two aren’t mutually exclusive

I have and most people including yourself wear an N95 incorrectly and don’t properly fit test.

OSHA requires a tech in for liability reasons, not because it's complicated or difficult.

I'm not sure why that matters?

If people don't use the shoulder strap on a seatbelt, does that mean seatbelts don't work? I think it would suggest public education could use some improvement.

Perhaps you should watch the video in the thread linked below. Not to mention that’s an absolutely terrible analogy.

"Complicated" and "difficult" are subjective. In order for this to work, it is a plan that a high percentage of all Americans would have to be able to successfully pull it off. Not knowing the exact percentage, and probably nobody does beyond speculation so I'll do it too, but let's say at least 70% of everyone would have to succeed.

No chance.

Even if it was as simple as tying shoelaces or not having your pants fall halfway down your thighs so your fat ass isn't exposed, there are just too many dull and lazy people who are either too stupid, too lazy or both.

So it could never work even if you could persuade me that it wasn't that difficult to properly fit them. I posted an unfortunately overly-large photo of Alyssa Milano wearing a wool mask. That is the IQ of an average person.

I previously used a firearm analogy. If someone has an ND while holstering a pistol, are holsters useless or bad? Are pistols useless or bad? Or does the operator need some training?

If you have the wrong holster, it's pretty useless. If you have your holster open, for someone to grab your gun, it's pretty useless.

Bandanas, crocheted masks, balaclavas...etc. These were all deemed ACCEPTABLE by people as "masks" in most places across the country. Are you just ignoring this fact?

I disagree.

Since infection and transmission rely on exposure (SEIR models), which is dependent on viral load, even an imperfect respirator will be of some use. We have enough data now to support the argument that mask, in particular respirators, help.

I disagree with the idea that without a brick wall 100% preventative measure that any mitigation efforts are useless, even when combined. It just doesn't flow logically for me.
