You can't do it on that salary. If you stay at home to save on rent, then you're called worthless and pathetic by the same generations complaining about the youth.
I didn't even mention the student loan payments. The average is 38k which is more than their yearly salary for entry level averaging what...5-6% interest rate?
It's a financial black hole and people realize the end game now. Lol at working like a cuck for these companies that give fuk all about you just to barely scrape by in society.

My younger brother changed careers in Jan 2020, he started at $15/h, he makes $90k a year now. To be fair I have been mentoring him, but he's the one putting in the work day by day.
The money is there for those who want it.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Honestly the issue is that everyone thinks they can just exist and have every single thing that they see people on tik tok or people that have WORKED to get there have. This just in, not every single person can have every luxury, you need to put in the work.
I've got this little entitled **** at my job with his 3 years experience under his belt acting like because he took the time to read some sections of the building code that are readily available it means his engineering is perfect. He doesn't/won't take the time to just bear down and listen to the fukkin guys with 10-15-20+ years of experience that hey, slow it down kiddo you're not perfect.

I'm not talking about my situation. I'm debt free and have a large savings.
I am however speaking on WHY the younger generation as a WHOLE is reacting this way.
You guys have no idea how to argue, do you? You're not arguing the premise of the actual thread. You're personalizing a generational issue. "Well why don't they just all do the same thing and eventually be financially stable!" They literally did without the financial stable part.
Tell every child to go to college. All kids go to college that is inflating at a price of 6-7% a year. Higher rates of college grads decreases the value of a college diploma. Corporations aren't required to pay more for a skillset that is now generalized and expected. The bar is raised higher now. They don't need to raise salaries because kids NEED these jobs to pay off debt. Inflation incurs more financial struggle. Everyone fighting for the same jobs.
The fact people in this thread are just saying, "well that's their fault for not just doing this" don't realize that statement has to be applied to probably 150 MILLION PEOPLE.

It's the oversight of the older generations that bother me the most. Imagine being smitten with greed over selling your house for way above a normal asking price and wonder why younger generations are struggling. They're being greedy while also complaining about why the younger generations aren't doing well financially. It's absurd when you think about it. I have to a buy a 30 year old small house from a boomer now for 400k that they bought for 70k? Let's compare the buying power of salaries between a boomer my age vs. today.

I used you and me as example so that you couldn't say that it's because times are different, yet you still used that same old tired excuse.
One more time. What's the constant in your life, a life where you feel you don't earn enough? It's you.

Let's not even talk about taxes, more payments necessary (phone payments utilities, etc), increase in healthcare costs, etc. The average cost of a house in the nation in 1993 was 126.5k. in 2023 is is 385k.
Tuition in 1993 was on average 3.8k and 7k including room and board. Average tuition now is 39k a year for private and just under 23k a year for public.
The starting point for the average kid in 2023 is so far behind yours it's hysterical you're even using that as an argument. You still don't get it do you?
I guarantee most kids would be extremely hard working given the fact they weren't starting at 40k+ in student loan debt, society telling them that they're losers at every corner, being shown people making millions every day on the their social media apps for dancing and making stupid content, and then getting chit on at work by boomers while they make 45k a year drowning in debt and inability to get ahead.
It's a completely different ball game.
People personalize this argument and don't realize the actual scale of this problem. I worked my ass off and paid off all my student loans early, have a good savings and no issues finacially, but I just got fukked by housing. I'm in IL though so it's compounded via property tax.
I could argue for your position too from my own perspective and personalize this saying these kids can get through it by working hard. I'm not though because I realize their life is at a completely different starting point than where i was 8-9 years ago. I had it easier. They're literally fukked right now and I'm not arrogant enough to not see it and not see their point of view no matter how annoying and lazy I think Gen Z is.

People starting to come to accept that most wealth and income in the world is exchanged via ownership and not production.
IE most of the "income" generated en total is by the rich investing in the profits from prouction of the working class
This balance has become way off and is not sustainable. this is the largest issue of our time and our world right now. The more wealth accumulated at the top, the worse off everyone else is and the more disenfranchised people become. Why expend 20% more energy and stress for 5% more income or compensation?
We need more wealth to filter down. Would address most every problem from cost of living, rents, homelessness, and crime.
just my two cents.

DeadlyStriker is killing it in this thread. Nobody has really debunked him, just one statistical outlier has resorted to personal attacks, and one out of touch older guy who I think means well but ultimately fell on the bootstraps trope.
Before I get attacked, I do all right, but it’s obvious that the young generation of today is starting life handicapped by all of the points already brought up.

Its just a poorly constructed argument. No no no. You have to argue this from a completely personal standpoint and brag about how well you're doing and that all 150 million can do the same!
You're arguing the premise of the OP and not the personalized focused argument to stroke your ego on how successful you are.

The reason people like me, you, many of the MISCers here are able to come out on top even in this situation is because we do work harder, save harder, etc than the average idiot. But thats the problem--you cannot tell everyone to work harder than everyone else. There has to be a significant proportion of the population below you in the bell curve the place you on top.
im not excusing the poor financial decisions of the youth, Im one of the most critical of them as well. But it is not an argument against fixing the system. The bulk of the population, the monetary idiots, the frugally retarded, they still need to be in a game where it makes sense to play. The nightmare comes when more and more of these people, who already are not the most responsible, the mos tthoughtful, etc become so discouraged that they opt out--which is what we are seeing.
Giant masses of men who no longer look for work, opt out of the system, and just exist, usually on the dole, causing crime, homelessness, mass shootings. This is the root of the problem--the American dream is being slowly yanked as a desire for wokring men and this cripples society in the long term.

but hurr durr just work harder, ok well by that logic if everyone works harder then no one does.
not even ashamed to say i may be one of these dudes here soon who says fuk it, lives minimally and get my bills paid but aside from that, best believe i'm not bending over backward for any job or corporation.

Reminder that boomers:
* Had it better than any generation in history
* Were raised on home-cooked meals
* Mom stayed home and gave them attention
* College was cheap. A fraction of what we pay
* A degree (in anything) would land you a good job
* Corporations kept you for decades
* Stock portfolios and homes increased 4x in value
* Retirement was considered a human right
And in return they..
* presided over the outsourcing of jobs and mass immigration…
* …leading to the underclass’s opiate-drenched collapse
* fed us frozen pizza and fruit juice, no cooking
* hyper-industrialized prison, healthcare, education, housing
* bought plastic junk and used toxic cleaning supplies
* triloscan soap, olestra chips, phthalate shampoo
* prescribed antibiotics liberally, nuking our gut flora
* gave children Ritalin, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Klonopin…
* got divorces and bought sports cars
*called us lazy for pointing out that we don't have the opportunities they did

No hard feelings, bud. I'll always like you more than most of the douchebag hard right wingers of the R/P.

And DeadlyStriker has made several good points regarding how much more expensive college is and how starting salaries haven't really kept up with even the low inflation we've had prior to the last two years. My son took a different route than me, he wanted to work in medicine so he became a PA. A super high in demand job right now that pays very well so he had no issues with paying for PA school or finding a great paying job.
I also do see how companies have completely began seeing employees as nothing but inputs in the COGS equation. Even in the early 90's there was still some common loyalty between company and worker.
So in a nutshell, I still think hard work is super important all things else being equal, but todays youth do have a much tougher path to set for themselves than my generation did.

" the smiley face is a must to make them fume.
wait 10 to 20 years from now and laugh on how these losers will be in their 40s and 50s serving my kids cheeseburgers from mcdonalds doing minimum wage lol

Among other things already stated in this thread. A MAJOR problem today is the amount of distraction in life.
Social media and the internet are very powerful tools. They can make your life or break your life. I've taught myself so much from free online content; enough to change my career path but I've wasted hundreds of hour at this point as well.
Some people only waste their time. I don't believe in banning social media or online content; but it has developed a void in many young minds.
