Anyone else in cold climates miss the rain and thunderstorms of summer?

No, rain is my most hated type of weather. Much prefer cold, unless the power was out

I am a huge fan of winter. However, this includes actual typical winter weather like snow.

This winter has been awful. Almost zero snow, some very cold periods and not just mid 30s to mid 40s with some rain and minimal sunlight. I can't believe how little snow we have had in the Chicago area. This weather is basically torture.

Spring is my least favorite season, but now I am begging for it.

If you have kids, you start to hate the hell out of snow because nowadays schools call off school and all activities anytime they predict like 3"+ of snow. Let me tell ya, it really sucks assssss having to either figure out alternative care for your kid last second (they never decide until at least very late into the evening the day prior, and sometimes not until a few hours before school starts), or burning what little sick time you have to stay home with them while pissing your coworkers off in the process.

Not in IL. Illinois schools only get cancelled for absurd cold weather like -50 wind chill, and only for high levels of snow. It completely depends on location.

You're in a different situation also.

you sure about all that? Because I barely paid any attention to school closing at all before I had kids. It pisses me off how easily stuff gets called off now. This year we've had multiple school days cancelled over winter storms that turned out to be duds that dropped like 2" of snow in the area.

If you live in Chicago, I would imagine that's different than outside the cities. The major cities in Minnesota don't call off school very much, either. The city I live in are pussies though because apparently like 2% of kids in the schools live outside the city. It's so stupid how they cancel school over them when their parents drive literal tanks anyway because they are so damn loaded lol.

When I lived in the cold mid-west, summer storms could be wonderful, bringing cooler temps afterwards. that would be a welcome relief.

Didn't really care much for spring thunderstorms though. They not only sometimes brought back winter weather afterwards, they would bring tornadoes with them. I hate tornadoes.

I miss living in Louisiana, it would rain almost every day the thunderstorms were epic too. Now I live in Utah where it rains like once every 3 weeks in the summer if we're lucky.

Dunno how it works there but we have like a set number of snow days planned and the kids get like extra breaks at the end of the year if they don’t take any.

No I live in the suburbs of IL. They almost never cancel school for weather related things unless it's severe. So maybe a few times a winter season if even. That means like 8+in of snow overnight or into the morning, extreme cold like high of -5 with extremely high wind chills.

That's only because we don't get a ton of extreme weather, but it's bad enough to where we are used to most of it.

I see your point though, but it's just not common around my area. Now that I think about it though, post covid has caused a lot of issues with days off school, kids getting "mental health" days, kids staying home with even the sniffles, etc. So post covid it really must be a nightmare. Didn't even think about that initially.

Correct on the covid thing. brb your kid has the sniffles or coughed two times in a span of 3 hours, they want you to drop everything and come pick them up/keep them home. Plus they cancel school way too often for bullchit like "teacher workshop" days now that should be reserved for their many natural vacation breaks like summer, the 2 week winter break, the 1 week spring break, etc. It's such a pita trying to add any extra days off school to all that chit along with the other stuff you mentioned. Especially living in blue cucked states that cater to that bullchit. At some point it's like, how many damn days off do schools need? Yet they wonder why test scores and overall academic performance keeps plumeting.

The biggest issue seems to be restaffing

Teachers don’t get raises until it gets voted on etc.. the job hasn’t kept up with inflation.

Many teachers left their job with Covid. Why come back when the salaries haven’t improved and a Starbucks barista job is same cash. The public school districts in my area are so understaffed they are starting school an hour later and ending an hour earlier. Coming off a 10point average IQ drop from Covid policies. They are deliberately making the masses dumber.

As much as people like to chit on government workers, you could say that about most government jobs.

I really enjoy the sounds of a storm and I missed it when I was in MI. I think my favorite is when the thunder rolls. Least favorite is a very loud close lightning strike.

We had quite a storm just this past week. It was a little annoying in that it woke me up around 1 am or so and I couldn't get back to sleep for a few hours.

You're in a different situation also.
Sounds like my experience in MI. Only closed school for extreme weather, meaning that the snow plows weren't able to get the roads clear or it was so cold there was concern that the diesel in the buses could freeze. Our first school year there was the record polar vortex year ['13 - '14].
