In real life yes its very decent salary. But on the misc its quite low. The average miscer is a millionaire. Thought you knew.

I'd say it is rich, even in California. You could get buy pretty well in a rural area, Nevada City, Yuba City, Fort Bragg, Redding, Crescent City, even Sacramento. Though if you tried to live in SF or any of the neighborhoods where celebrities and politicians live, then you are barely above the poverty line

it was before covid, now with 7, 8, 9% CPI per month for the past 3 years, that's probably worth less than 100K was in 2018.

$200k puts you in the top 12% of Americans, in terms of household income, $410k enters you into the top 2% in America for household income. Individual income is vastly different though... $200k puts you in the top 4% ($120k is top 12%), $280k is needed for top 2%.

The above is all BS though. A nice modern, recently built, spacious, high tech home, can be bought for a little over $200k in Ohio. The same would be over $1.5 mill in many areas of California.

When I hear "rich," I hear "wealth." Total net worth. Not income. You can make $1m a year, but that's peanuts if your annual COL is $700k+.

This is misc, 10 years ago the average miscer made 10k/day. So at this point 200k is nearing poverty level. Don't worry though, we all gonna make it

But if you make 1m a year and spend 700k you're still netting 300k savings annually which by itself is equal to top 1% income

High salary to me means the ability to live in a majority of cities, nice house, a couple nice cars, baller vacations, and enough leftover to invest and retire well before 65.

I think that number is $250k. $600k house, $85k AMG territory.

When I wrote that I was thinking about taxes. $1m income, after taxes, is $655k.... and that's assuming you're in a tax free state + city. If your CoL is $700k you're negative $45k for the year lol.

Yeah, it's important to distinguish "what makes you rich" and "what's a good income".

I know folks here on household income over $1 million a year who still send their driver to Costco for them, heh.

I'd consider myself rich when I have the freedom to quit my job and still live comfortably the rest of my life. Getting to that point on $200k would probably take you at least 15 years.

Not rich but you should be able to live very well. However, a lot of people are stupid with money and their problems get worst when they have more of it. If you make 50K a year and can't make ends meet, you'll be in the same boat if you made 100K or 200K. Kind of like part of the justification for paying atheletes so much money is that they have a short career but most of them retire in debt.
