Like any woman will accept this. They will 100% leave you if you don’t commit to marry them after some time together

If she leaves for that reason, she'll leave for many other reasons... Bullet dodged.

You say that as if marrying a woman does anything to help ensure loyalty from them in 2023. Here's a hint: it doesn't change anything.

Nah. A woman needs to feel secure and that you will provide..even if she makes more. If you don't marry and just live together, you are just setting yourself up for failure.

I've seen cases of people co-habitating and having kids without actually marrying work out. The hardest part about what they do seems to be having to deal with marriagecels constantly snickering and talking chit about it behind their backs, but I'd imagine they eventually learn not to let that kinda nonsense bother them at all.

Now considering the countless marriages I've seen fail via either divorce or clearly miserable people staying out of convenience, and I really don't understand your point. This isn't the 1950's when getting married actually meant something beyond being a legal contract that the woman can just take a fat crap on whenever she feels like it.

Being married makes you stay in the game. Believe it or not, when some people recite those vows, they mean something. Your word is who you are, and when you give your word before friends, family, and most importantly God, you accept the fact that you are going to stick it out through the good and bad and remain faithful. If you or your woman cannot do that. (not necessarily saying you)..then why even bother living together?

BTW, most of the people getting divorced and remarried are the same people..because they do not know how to keep their vows. I can't tell you how many people I know that are on their 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th marriage..so when you hear "more than 50% of marriages end in divorce"..it's because the same people keep getting divorced and remarried over and over again. People need to first get right with God..then find the right woman. A marriage that is not centered around God is going to have a very difficult time of succeeding.

This - For the majority of females, they need to have that 'official' status of being married, it's just how their minds work when they have been fed stories from a child through movies and society, of just how important it is to be married

It's hard to get a traditional woman that would also be okay with being your 'girlfriend' at 35 after dating for many years
I'll see you on Mount Olympus

That's the paradox. Any woman who will only be with you if you sign a legal property contract isn't the one you want to a sign a legal property contract with.

Kind of knew the first time we met. But had to be sure, so after 6 years of living together and having a child, I proposed. No regrets.

You don't marry a woman to make her feel secure. You marry her because you WANT to marry her, and she adds value to your life. If she leaves you while common law, she'll leave while married. Never rush into marriage, it can absolutely destroy a man.

Can't say enough about this. Especially if you are under 30 as a male don't even consider marriage because you don't need to. So many young guys get pressured into the engagement, big wedding BS because all their friends do it and it's a total scam. This is one of the most important decisions you will make if you want it to last, so vet your partner very carefully. There's so many guys who wife up the first girl who will bang them because they are desperate and they overlook everything. Had a friend who just went through a nightmare divorce because he was a finance bro who got together with a beer store clerk because she was hot and put out and he is a troll.

Look for red flags carefully. Anything major like incompatible sex drives, how they want to handle money and kids, if they have issues from their past - including cheating - that will affect them into the future, earning potential or if they have a decent income ALL need to be considered unless you want to end up divorced.

I had the chance once to marry a fine girl

I fuked it up and wasn’t sure about it back then (I was 25). I had some kind of thought that I might find someone even better even prettier and even younger (she was a few months younger than me and didn’t look like in her glow when she was 18-19ish)

End of the story I was too insecure and I lost her

Still the biggest mistake I’ve made to this day. As soon as I lost her I knew she was the one. It’s been 5 years now and I still gotta think of her and didn’t find someone better to this day.

In general after one year absolute max you should propose and marry in second year. Otherwise you’re just wasting each others time.
Not trying to be mean, but should anyone be taking marriage advice from you?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

No pressure, i give two fuks what my family thinks as much as I love them.

If you made such a thread, trust me, you should never ever get married.

Don't know really. No one thing, it just kind of felt right.

2.5 years. Travel with the person you are with. Go to many different places. Travel brings out the best and worst in people. You also get to spend a week in close quarters with them. If you can handle that, its a good sign things are going to be fine. Also, make sure you have hard conversations about plans, money, living arrangements, and especially MONEY. It's the most common reason for divorce. Make sure she is submissive or at least meshes well with your life views. I knew my wife was the one when she would come do wifely duties for me while i was working. If she is an instagram attention whore, move on quickly. My wife works with me in my side business, and i paid her very little when we first started. She wanted to work for free. Anyone who is THAT supportive of you is a keeper IMO.

Also, i would argue income is way less important than what many will lead on. I would much rather a woman depend on me to lead the house, than a woman who wants to compete with me in that realm. I have buddies that married a woman for her income potential and it is a rocky road. Women aren't meant to be bread winners, and you are cuking yourself marrying a woman who could out earn you. Men have fragile egos and when you start looking at your wife as a threat to your manhood, RIP.

This is what a number of folks underestimate: the responsibility of choosing the right person.

I know men and women who are addicted to toxic/troubled partners - they love the drama. How they think their life choices are a template for others boggles my mind, much like other posters on this forum who think the same.

We started dating in April, engaged in 10 months, married 10 months later.

But I had known my wife since I was like 13 and dated her in high school so

I knew within a matter of weeks and it was entirely just my desire

Dated 8 years, lived together for 4, remodeled a house during 2 of those years together which was brutal but worth it. Kid on the way

We wanted to get married for a bit, but money was always in the way. Still executed a prenup together after all that time. gotta have your incentives in alignment bruhs. I want her to know if she cheats, she loses it all. And vice versa.

****s been solid for 12 years total now.

I've been happily married for 25 years this year.

LOL at anyone getting married in 2023. There is literally less than zero chance I would get married today. The entire culture is degenerate and LOL if you think I would tie myself to an individual with that foundation from a financial, mental, etc perspective.

lol at the cope. "b-b-b-but muh gf stayed with me while I was a mess and drinking and made no money. She loves me and never cheats"

Yeah because she's probably a hard 3/10 and couldn't do any better.

Op - don't get married. The man takes all the risk and if you really "loved" each other, you wouldn't need to sign legal documents to prove it.

But truth is, love isn't real. Only unconditional love is between a child and his mother because the child was literally part of her body for almost a year. The emotions you share with someone you happen to 'get along with' in your social circle is not worth half your assets and annuity payments.

The moment I laid eyes on her. I was 32 and had been dating around for over a year. The freedom was convenient but the experience was getting old.

When I saw my wife my immediate thought was "this is going to be serious."

A year later we were married. Been together 6 years this May, and will have been married 5 years this October.

I've been in two ltrs prior to my wife. Relationships and comittment take a lot of work, lot's of compromise on little things that make living together feasible (don't compromise on your beliefs and values).

I'm okay with compromise because I know that having everything my way all of the time, if it were so great, I'd have been completely okay being single my entire life, but it's not what it's cracked up to be. I think a lot of brahs itt, we know we can be our own worst enemy and letting someone else have their way can be helpful to yourself.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.
