Guy stole my phone, about to call him to negotiate...what do? (28k)

Some dude stole my phone and was able to get into it and remove my Google account so I can't track it. Already stole money from my cashapp and ordered food using my Doordash. I was unable to suspend the line or get a new phone since I share it with a sibling (currently unavailable by phone or SM due to military) who for some reason didn't add me as an authorized user.

He picked up for one of my buddies, said he'd be willing to return it most likely for money. What would you brahs say or do to get it back for the least amount of money possible?

He'll probably promise to drop it off somewhere or something. If we meet up that's a different story and authorities or dat dere handheld enforcer will be involved. Reps till I'm out.

Don’t you have some sort of security lock on it?

The face recognition ones freak me out. I’m heard of people knocking victims out to use their unconscious faces to unlock phones after stealing them (apparently a crew in NY was known for this).

I'd offer it but if we meet in person then I'd def have him arrested or jump him. Most likely will involve authorities because I don't want a record.

Dealt with this back in 2014......guy swiped my GF's phone while we were out....she was drunk and probably left it sitting somewhere. We figure it out at about 1am, so I call it....some guy picks up and says he's at his house and we can come get it. Says he want's $500, I say yea sure man, whatever you want, Ill get it and be to your place in 30 minutes....

Drive drunk AF to this guys house, back into his driveway call her phone, he says just come on in....I say I'm not coming in your house, he says "you want this phone?" I say "you want this $500, you'll meet me in your front yard" so I see his front door open, I get out of the car and start walking towards him, I can see the phone in his hand, I walk right up to him and as he starts to say "you got......" and boom he gets a nice right hand to the gut, he drops the phone and falls to the ground. I pick up the phone and walk back to the car and drive off.....and as Im walking to the car his mom opens the front door and starts yelling at me "What did you do!!??" he's still on the ground trying to catch his breath and I can hear her yelling at him "I told you to just give him the phone!"

Then, drunk GF is all pissed off at me for hitting him and said I should have at least given himsomemoney cause he could have just stolen the phone altogether.

Hard lessonnotto store banking/credit card information on a cell phone, especially a chitty Android that any nerd with a PC can easily software-bypass

JFL @ trusting those 3rd party useless apps like food deliveries etc; they're about as secure as your local high school

Never store any information in a "cloud" where the whole world can technically access it either

Cell phone are simply too easy to lose



I still use cash whenever possible, everyone I know has commented about it but I'm also the only person I know that hasn't had money/identity stolen at least once

this is BS. just have a strong password/code/biometric on your device and you'll be fine. and the Cloud works well in these scenarios because your data is backed up and not lost. and using Apple/Google Pay with a virtual credit card number is much safer than carrying around a bunch of cash and/or credit cards.
