Italy in May, tips & recomendations?
Going with the wifey. We have 12 nights to split up however we want as long as we end up in Rome (its where we are flying home from). I know there are the elitist that say you need to spend 2 weeks in 1 place to really get a feel. I wont be spending 2 weeks driving around Tuscany, sorry... I figured we'd have time to hit the main sites in each major city, and maybe use 1 day for day trips somewhere nearby (IE: Florence > Pisa // Naples > Pompeii). I'm not against cutting out 1 stop entirely, I just want to get in as much as possible on this trip so if I do ever get to go back I can be more selective and stay longer the spots we liked.
Any Italy bros got tips/recommendations?

In the main tourist destination cities, check out the app “With Locals.” Arrange for a private tour that suites your interests best! I suggest doing it toward the beginning of your stay in that city because they will give you so many amazing recommendations! I’ve been to Italy several times and just used them in my last trip for the 10 Tastings of Rome tour and I wish I would have done it sooner!

If you don't have a tour guide planned, read up on art, some amazing pieces are in small churches you will pass by and never notice. Caravaggio paintings are hidden away in some tiny churches.
Around 5pm HBB's come out so take a seat outside a bistro or cafe and enjoy the hbb views whatever town you're in.

Rome, I expect that. Like any major city. I just wana see some of the cool old ****. U think I should only do 2 nights in rome and add a night somewhere else?
Capri is too much to add onto this trip. One day in Almalfi unless I completely cut out naples I think,

Going to Tuscany for a Wedding in September and it looks incredible( unless we are at warof course).Me and the wife had the honeymoon in Italy and split it between Rome, positano and milan and ill say check out Sorrento if you have time.
My big advice do not make a day out of Naples srs. Just go see Pompeii and keep moving.
City is filthy as **** and looks like you get mogged or stabbed at night. Apparently the mafia runs the waste management there fun fact lol.
Make sure you see the basilica its amazing.

I spent the better part of a month Italy...
I recommend two days in Rome to start and get it out of the way. Make sure you hit the Pantheon at night
Hit Tuscan region for as many days as you can afford (Montepulciano is a great landing place)
Hit the train and travel to Positano for the coast for as long as you can afford
I was not impressed with Venice at all, would not do again. A trip to the leaning tower of pisa is an absolute waste.
Drink wine until you cant drink anymore. Eat food until your pants button explodes and then cram gelato on top. I ate/drank more than I ever did at home and never felt hungover or bloated. Best food on the planet with possibly the exception of Argentina/Brazil. I came home 10lbs lighter (srs). No clue what they do to our food in the US and no it wasnt from the exercise. There were days I would sit out in town square and drink Moretti red and zero exercise was had. ...

Naples is a horrible dump. I've been to Mexico (admittedly, it was Cancun, which may be way nicer than most of the country) but Naples is by far the place I've been that felt the most like a third-world country. It's filled with trash and hideous graffiti.
There are basically two things in Naples worth seeing. The National Archaeological Museum and Pompeii, which is 40-minute train ride away. (There's a nice art museum too, but by the standards of what you can see in other places in Italy it's not that amazing.) You could see both of those on a day-trip from Rome, rather than staying in Naples itself.
I would buy a Rick Steves guidebook. He has lots of useful information. It will help you decide which sights you should visit. It also helps you understand what you are looking at. For example, just why a famous painting is so famous, or what that Roman ruin originally was. He also has great free audio guides. You can download those and listen while walking through a sight. You can find those here:https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-rea...io/audio-tours
You should have a great time. Italy has some of the best attractions in the world. Florence, Venice, and Rome are amazing.

PRO TIP: Keep your valuables secure while in Rome. Along with Barcelona it is notorious for pickpockets.

Alright so Naples is a fcking dump... Misc is not the only place I've heard this. I thought id use it mainly as a base for day trips to Almalfi & Pompeii but scratch that.
So what do you boys recommend in the south? Sorrento? Positano? Somewhere else?

Also plan on walking a lot. A couple years ago my wife and I did a 16 day trip to Venice, Florence, Sorrento, and Rome. We averaged around 10-12 miles a day.
