Squatting is like the only exercise that matters

For real. Literally makes you stronger at being human (upright posture, functional everyday carryover, vertical jump and speed)

If you're not an athlete, there really is no reason to have a heavy barbell on your back to compress your spine. No where in the history of mankind were our body designed to balance a steel bar and squat it. I have gotten the same leg development with machine only exercise and lunges. (Ded fkn Srs)

squatting making you athletic is a meme. you fell for it.

There is only one exercise you need to do for the rest of your life to be "athletic" and that is sprinting.

This. It's also the exercise that matters the least for aesthetics out of the big 3, & doesn't do much to enhance your appearance in general.

I'm not against squatting, but it's not the ultimate athletic feat Riptoad and his army of bloatlords make it out to be. Squats are also not gonna enhance your aesthetics like things that hit your chest, arms, or back (dat V-taper). Oh, & it's not true that "squats grow your upper body by supercharging your test, brah". The test increase from squatting is minor, transient, & too small to impact much of anything at all.

if anything, big compound lift is detrimental to athletic performance because they fry the fukk out of your cns. It's the primary reason why top tier athletes don't go full retard in the gym with the big three. They need their CNS to be ready and firing on game day.

No basketball player is squatting to the point where they can't take a chit without pain when their entirely livelihood is dependent on their legs and leg mobility lulz.

Some people want to be the best they can be even if they're not a competing athlete

Depends on the individual as well, some people can squat fine without any problems their whole life, most people who have pain/trouble squatting don't have the proper mobility/an underlying condition/etc

You're hitting much more than just your legs also, not to mention the CNS adaptation you get (high load) which has huge carryover to so many different exercises/strength/speed/agility/coordination etc

You're still correct on leg development, you can get big legs without barbell back squats, especially unilateral work which funny enough is imperative to do if you are an athlete anyways

Don't even get me started on how beneficial front squats are

If I'm going to put this much time into lifting, I'm going to be make sure I can look the part and move big weights

LMAO exactly

Besides, there are plenty of bball players with 30+" verticals who have never seen a squat rack in their entire lives. Meanwhile, Ripeturd has tens of thousands of squat warriors who can put 3-4-600 on their backs but can't jump more than a foot off the ground.

also big legs absolute destroys aesthetic because it throws off the golden ratio.

a man with big thigh/quads takes away the attractiveness of having lean long legs. A big upperbody with a Vtaper benefits from long lean legs. A Vtaper gets diminished when the legs are thiccc like a woman's.

congrats, now you look like you have legs of a stumpy oompa loompa.

Or you slowly build up your workload monitoring volume/frequency/intensity like an intelligent lifter does to avoid the issues mentioned above and actually get bigger/stronger

I gave up heavy barbell lifts like squat deadlift bench and focused solely on machines and isolations and dumbbells

The result was I lost size and a ton of strength. I wasn’t measuring but it seemed bodyfat percentage went up even though I stayed the same weight

It also just seemed impossible to progress on machines the same way you can with barbell compounds. You can keep trying harder and hard and squat more every workout, but it’s like no matter how hard I pushed myself I could never do more weight or reps workout to workout with machines

I’m back to real lifting and starting to feel muscular again
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

I'm not trying, this is a fact

You can increase your muscle recruitment efficacy and muscle size without burning the CNS out or getting that sore

Every serious lifter includes back / front squats for too many reasons to list

You guys clearly don't know how to program your training

And I'm not saying you can't make great gains without back squats, I'm just saying you will be missing out on many benefits, weird things can happen when your squat goes up, such as bench press can increase, srs

my right inner hip/groin area hurts a day after squatting. Not even that heavy. I find it hard to lift my leg up, like when getting into a car.

strong unawareness. go into literally any university strength gym with elite college athletes and you will see them squatting heavy weights, weights you think they shouldn't be able to squat.

the coaches just actually know how to program them around practices/games and dont go full potato like misters do

they squat because their retarded S&C coach told them to squat and that's how they keep their job. I am willing to bet their squat numbers does absolute fukk all in reflecting/determining their actual on field ability. Those college kids were athletic long before they ever did a single ghey ass to grass squat.

Squatting doesn't make you athletic. Athletic people are good at squat. Stop confusing the two.
