Natural immunity found to be as effective as COVID vaccine

Natural immunity found to be as effective as COVID vaccine — 3 years after mandates: Lancet study
https://nypost.com/2023/02/27/natura...after-mandates

Years after the rollout of vaccine mandates that led to the firing of thousands of workers, the Lancet has reported that natural immunity is just as effective as two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer shots in preventing both reinfection and serious illness from COVID-19.

The findings, which were published in the February edition of the prestigious medical journal, were based on a review of 65 separate studies from 19 different countries.

“Although protection from reinfection from all variants wanes over time, our analysis of the available data suggests that the level of protection afforded by previous infection is at least as high, if not higher than that provided by two-dose vaccination using high-quality mRNA vaccines,” the report declared.

The research was funded in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with senior study author, Dr. Christopher Murray hailing the findings.

“This is really good news, in the sense that protection against severe disease and death after infection is really quite sustained at 10 months,” said Murray in a statement. The study “supports the idea that those with a documented infection should be treated similarly to those who have been fully vaccinated with high-quality vaccines,” according to researchers.

However, many who lost jobs, fell out with friends or were derided as anti-vaxxers simply for expressing skepticism about the effectiveness of the shots, are fuming about the findings.

Thousands took to social media to rage over the report, with one writing: ” ‘The science’ now shows we ‘conspiracy theorists’ were right all along.”

“Why should we care that The Lancet now recognizes natural immunity? This makes my blood boil,” another fumed.

“Those of us with natural immunity were blamed for ‘killing grandma’. So what’s going to happen now? Are people going to call The Lancet conspiracy theorists too?” a third furious pundit asked.

Meanwhile, Allysia Finley wrote in an Op-Ed for the Wall Street Journal that “the false denial of natural immunity caused vaccine skeptics to dig in and fueled suspicions that public-health officials were in the pocket of vaccine makers and dishonest about other things as well.”

According to the Lancet’s findings, protection against reinfection from the original strain of COVID, as well as the alpha and delta variants, stood at an average of 78.6% 40 weeks on from the initial infection. However, protection against reinfection by the omicron variant declined more rapidly and was estimated at 36.1% 40 weeks on.

Meanwhile, protection against severe disease (i.e. hospitalization or death) remained high across all variants, at more than 88% 40 weeks on from initial infection.

The study’s authors wrote that their findings could have an impact on future policymaking, potentially ending the rigidity of vaccine mandates.

“Immunity conferred by past infection should be weighed alongside protection from vaccination when assessing future disease burden from COVID-19, providing guidance on when individuals should be vaccinated, and designing policies that mandate vaccination for workers or restrict access,” they wrote.

Caroline Stein, one of the study authors, stated that “decision-makers should take both natural immunity and vaccination status into consideration to obtain a full picture of an individual’s immunity profile.”

However, Murray said the report still emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated and boosted.

“The problem of saying ‘I’m gonna get infected to get immunity’ is you might be one of those people that end up in the hospital or die,” he said in a statement. “Why would you take the risk when you can get immunity through vaccination quite safely?”

Many others online agreed.

“Given it’s long-term impacts on your body, probably best to avoid it where possible,” one wrote on Twitter, implying they were happy to continue getting boosters in order to remain protected.

“Anti-vaxxers will say this means getting infected with Covid is just as good as vaccination, but that’s only true if you’re not in the 1 or 2% of unvaccinated who die from the infection, or the much larger percentage who get long COVID,” another declared on Twitter.

Only 16% of the US population has received the updated booster dose for COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, just 69% of the population has completed a primary series of vaccines.

Does that count as a success for the vax or a failure for the immune system?

Right except getting the virus naturally killed a bunch of people. Not sure how you think it was better to get the virus than get vaccinated. It's actually completely insane to think that.

Not to mention "natural immunity" has a large variation in how well your antibodies will bind, whereas the vaccines were engineered to be as immunogenic as possible.

But none of you are medical professionals, and a NY Post article doesn't change that. Let me know if the medical community at large changes their mind. Otherwise, you're just a bunch of losers screeching.

(See the above post.)

Vaccine efficacy/safety aside- the fact that governments mandated people get a ‘vaccine’ for something that hospitalized less than 1% of those who got infected without ANY data regarding said ‘vaccine’s’ ability to stop transmission is very troubling, no?

It hospitalized more than 1%. And that's a distinct question. Not everyone was in favor of mandates, but it really shouldn't be a big deal, and the mandates clearly worked and got a bunch of people to get vaccinated. It isn't "very troubling" to me. What is very troubling is how batchit insane some people in this country are, as evident by this board, and also by how close we are to a nuclear war.

It was never an either/or situation winnie. People who got their delicious Fauci Fluid injections, along with the 43 boosters still got a runny nose, fever, and body aches.

Judging by those pice he plastered in every thread last week, its probably spoo all over his face instead of what most people think of as a runny nose.

That is what i have, natural immunity. That works for me. Wish government health officials recognized natural immunity but they didn't. Glad I live in Florida where the governor was against vaccine mandates.

.4% requiring hospitalization for those under 40. The rate of hospitalization for the elderly is statistical noise leading to an inaccurate representation of the risk of covid for the vast majority of the population.

So it makes sense to you to impose a ‘vaccine’ on those who aren’t at risk of severe illness without the added benefit of data supporting lower risk of transmission?

I don’t know if you’re an authoritarian, a moron, or both.

So kinda like many suggested: balance the risks of immunonaive infection against the risks of vaccination.

1) I didn't impose anything on anyone. Perhaps you should take your argument to your governor at the time or the President.
2) Nearly half the population is over 40.
3) Vaccines helped reduced severe illness and death in all age groups.
4) Vaccines help reduce overall transmission in the population as a whole due to reduced convalescence periods.

I will ignore your other comments and bid you a good day as you seem to be emotionally invested in this subject.

Except nobody's going to bloody do that except a few fringe idiots, but that's just natural selection running its course, kind of like a virus. And at this point it's the sniffles, so people really need to have gotten a grip on their pathetic selves already.

Just think: in 3 years The Science™ discovered the immune system.

And all it took was an experimental shot from woefully unprepared companies more concerned with profiteering off of fearmongering by a corrupt mainstream media and government more than willing to subject its citizens to authoritarianism.

That's not the own the vaxipad thinks it is when they were still susceptible. But they'll just keep on coping so they don't start roping because they sold their bodies over for twitter clout and a free krispy kreme donut.

Again,

I didn't impose anything on anyone. Perhaps you should take your argument to your governor at the time or the President.

I personally don't care whether they mandate it or not. But data suggests they worked at getting people to get vaccinated. Whether the ends justify the means is a matter of opinion. I can't objectively defend either side nor do I care much for this issue. I voluntarily got vaccinated, and so did most in my community.

Yet you advocate for those measures and seem bullish on their effect.

Seasonal illnesses come and go. What persists is our ability to live as sovereign, free people. When governments and Pharma companies conspire to restrict your freedoms, you would be foolish to be on the fence. Especially over something that equates to the sniffles for most.

I personally don't care whether they mandate it or not.But data suggests they worked at getting people to get vaccinated.Whether the ends justify the means is a matter of opinion. I can't objectively defend either side nor do I care much for this issue. I voluntarily got vaccinated, and so did most in my community.
NO!!!!
