Would you be a cannibal in a post-apocalyptic world to stay jacked?

I made this thread yesterday but it got wiped in the misc shutdown.



From the movie the Bad Batch. It's not post-apocalyptic, but this faction stays jacked and fit by feasting on human flesh (they eat the arm and leg of the protagonist early in the film).


Say the world ends in apocalypse. Assume for arguments sake that animals don't survive the apocalypse, or are hunted to extinction soon after. You have two options: You either eat humans to stay jacked and fit and fast, and the top dogs in the post-apocalyptic world, or you stay weak, frail, and vulnerable to the stronger cannibal factions.


What do you choose? How are prepared are you to keep your size and stay fit and strong?

I am far from jacked, so no threat of losing anything there...I do however have a child and if food becomes unavailable and my child is starving, you best believe slow neighbors will start disappearing.

This could be considered plausible. I don't have a child, but I can imagine doing anything to protect their life. But I am still ambivalent about going as far as cannibalism. Tough decision.

This is a bit more disturbing though, as it seems he is all too ready to resort to cannibalism without much a second thought. There's a lot of phenotypic variation amongst people, though. And that has got to make very different tastes amongst two very different types of people.

It sounds morbid, but who would you target? Which people would be the most...."nutritious" and actually able to be somewhat palatable?

Every single movie/show about the apocalypse gets it wrong. Be it zombies or nuclear war ... whatever it is is depicted as having killed most of the human population. Then its depicted as a world of scarcity, which is entirely false. If most of the human population was killed off, but most of the physical buildings and whatnot are intact, there would be more than enough resources for everyone left. There wouldn't be scarcity for a long time.

Because the world we have, and all the things in it, are based around 300+ MILLION people in the USA. Distribution centers, stores, etc. If the population were reduced to even just half, thats literally double the resources for everyone overnight. Each group or individual could only take so much stuff at a time.

Thats why post WW2 was so good for everyone left after for as long as it was good. Same reason everything is so good for everyone left after population sharpy declines like the black plague.

You might be not recognizing that the necessary infrastructure to support civilization has collapsed. You can pull enough threads out of a network and it collapses. My scenario envisages this, and also that animals have been hunted to extinction, but still a biosphere that is enough to support the remaining life.

I couldn't believe the star studded cast it had. Reeves and Carrey in it as well.


Plus, whilst I'm not in the cannibal camp yet, human meat couldn't taste all that different from other animal meats anyway. There are the regular farm animals, there are gamier animal meats like venison, bison, kangaroo, crocodile, rabbit etc. I've tried a fair few.

I wonder what humans would taste most like, and how much taste variation there is between people.

Saltwater crocodiles are aplenty in my neck of the woods. People outside of tropical biomes just don't realize what they're missing. Crocodile is meat is delicious AF, but I've never eaten it just as is. I've always had it crumbed in schnitzel form, the local restaurant makes crocodile schnitzels.

50% chicken, 50% fish taste IMO.

Its gamy fo sho. Reminds me of deer up north. More chewy, but at the end of the day taste like chicken when grilled or fried correctly. Gator tails the goat at a good restaurant that knows what they're doing in the sticks.

You could eat off Florida predators for a minute, but you'd need your trappin' game right.

In that scenario yes, but it would be way easier to hunt animals and to do some farming/chicken raising than to hunt and eat humans. If I were so dehumanized I would rather keep them as slaves and have them work on my farm and use them to feed and fatten some pigs and so on
