Mandatory Military Service is a Good Idea

Why should anyone be a citizen without participating?


Also dilutes the excess spending in the military so everyone gets a share.

I used to somewhat joke that, that is one way for universal health care, for people that want government run health care. Serve in the military and be eligible for the VA. The VA medical service doesn't seem to be all that popular though.

people are giant chit bags the last year in service. couldnt imagine working beside people who were forced to be there. sounds miserable.

They should do it like starship troopers. Federal Service, mostly the military, grants citizenship. People without citizenship, civilians, are merely legal residents and barred from voting, having children, owning firearms etc

I've always thought similarly. Serve and get your education paid for. But I believe in more domestic roles as well ie: wildland firefighting, SAR etc.

Even if someone is against some sort of objector they can start a chef apprenticeship, and serve in that role feeding troops or even in homeless shelters (we pay for that anyways). When they are done their two years their last 2 years of school are covered plus they've pocketed some money. Kids are so lost out of highschool now that joint the workforce in any capacity would be huge.

What you would end up with is basically two militaries or at least a divided one.

The people who want to be there with careers and such would do all the work and make all the deployments and the others forced to be there would do alternative tasks like gate guards and handing out i,d cards and stuff like that.

I akshually did the asvab. did quite well, they were going to put me in Intel in the USMC with a $10k bonus but i dropped out b4 going to boot camp.

Not no, but F no. 80 percent of NCOs time is wasted taking care of the dirtbags the military already has in the service. Add to that millions of more fat, lazy trash and forget about any really training getting done.

Is that bad though (srs)? I still think it'd be a great way for tradesmen to get their start and a way for people who can't afford university to earn money and have their education subsidized.
