Can't speak for others, but for me it's less about a law relating to as much as it is about cultural acceptance of it. It is just utterly bizarre to me that people could think these things are alright - let alone good - to the point that people calling for them to be stopped get lambasted as crazies.

But then again, perhaps it's just like mask-wearing, vaccine-taking, lab-leak-believing etc ... regardless of the merits for/against the position, once it becomes seen as being adopted by one "side" then it needs defending - or ridicule - to the end. Sad if that's what it comes down to, but otherwise I can't understand why there are people trying to push for the normalisation of men in gaudy make-up and women's clothes reading story books to children.

It reminds me of all the parents losing their minds over Elvis gyrating his hips. No laws being broken but deep down its just wrong etc. Looking back its silly, but at the time it was a big deal. This attack on trans people is very similar except today we have red states trying to legislate these people away.

I think that the Elvis situation was very different to this sort of thing - young adults/teens watching/listening to something they like vs children being brought to something organised by adults - although at the same time, I do believe that there was some truth to it. Music/culture like thatdideventually lead to more pre-marital sex, less marriage, etc. Woodstock, summer of love, free love and all that. I definitely wouldn't say that Elvis was the one responsible for it, more that it all happened around a time of laxing the existing moral/social rules.

I'm glad we don't live in an era where men beating their wives or kids etc is accepted, but at the same time I feel we've swung too far in the opposite direction to the point I've been on the sidelines of people arguing - vehemently - against someone else who said "I believe that it's best for a child to be raised by married - or at least cohabiting - biological parents." That was enough to set this other person off on a full-on vitriolic tirade, when up until that point the conversation had been completely normal and polite. It was like a "wrong-think" switch had been flipped in their head.

It circles back around to me not understanding how worked up people get about this subject RE defending explicit books for children and drag queen storytime etc. I don't get why people are so quick to defend them, and so ardently, as if they were some long-cherised family tradition.
