I love the VW crossovers, my wife has a Tiguan right now (doesn't have the 3rd row option sadly) and it's been great. We got the 2019 model in early 2021 with 26K miles for $26,500. They are good bang for your buck.

Only reason I'm not getting VW again is because there are no quality import maintenance shops near me. Gotta drive 40 minutes to get an oil change.

Not really. You're getting 1/3 less car for 1/3 less money compared to domestic.

u wot

how is it 1/3 less car? I don't need a high towing capacity, 4x4, 400+ ft-lb. of torque, or anything else in the traditional full size domestic SUVs. I need the size, seating capacity, and technology. They're catering to the market, providing the features I actually want and ignoring the ones I don't to keep price low.

domestic cars are getting mogged, read literally ANY car critique articles on full-size SUVs. The telluride has taken first place in near all of them.

Chevy consistently ranks near the top in terms of problems per 100 cars, lol it's not some pinnacle of quality.

And the base model comes with significantly less features. To get it fully loaded and comparable in terms of technology and features, you're looking at $75K for a tahoe. The pimped out version of the palisade isn't even 45K. The one in the OP has a good mixture of tech and sport aesthetics and is $43K. I think a pimped out telluride is like $50.

Honestly I'll be driving these foreign economy class cars until my kids are out of the house.

Gonna be a POS in like 5 years man...Hyundai's mechanically are trash. Tahoes, escalades, etc. are built on a truck frame. I guess if you plan to trade it in after a few years it might be fine but i never see kias or Hyundai's last much past that 100k mile mark. They also do not hold their value like a tahoe or escalade.

The kia sorento, which share a chassis with the palisade and telluride, holds it's value well. Go look at the used car market. There are 5-8 year old sorentos for sale literally everywhere with 100K miles selling for over 50% of their original MSRP. Which is virtually the same retained value, if not better, than a tahoe of the same age and mileage.

There are also literally loads of sorentos from 2008 to 2012 with upwards of 200K miles for sale.

Add to that the insane improvements that kia/hyundai has made since then, and I'd wager that these SUVs will be lasting just as long as domestics if not longer. The only reason I can't say for sure is because the telluride and palisade didn't come out until 2020.

I looked at Palisades when my wife was shopping for a new car, ended up w/ the Telluride, but the Palisade is a badass looking car. Bigger than a Telluride by a hair or two as well.

Nah bro the build is different. Lexus will have higher quality materials and trimming. Cars like Hondas and KIAs you'll hear creaks because materials are inferior. And you can install those electronics aftermarket if you REALLY need them.

Also, good luck on your resale value. Kia/Hyundai are throw away cars. You'll never sell it and will lose your ass on a trade in.

Don't.

You don't need a third row for 3 kids. Stop the ingrained desire for consumption and stick with the working car that you already have.

You can definitely fit 3 kids in your car.

Dunno about that op I test drove the Kia version of that car and it felt very cheap both inside and how it drove. Steering was kind of drifty and unresponsive. Also now that this model has been out for ~4 years I am noticing the old ones (especially Kia telluride I haven't seen the Hyundai version hardly at all) are not aging well stylewise. I'm very happy with my Honda passport.

IMO best looking mid-size/Large crossover SUV out right now is the Volvo XC90. Especially in white chit is pure sexy.https://www.volvocars.com/us/cars/xc90-hybrid/

Spoken like a man who has never experienced the joys of safety seats.

- can't put any children in the front seat

- due to anchoring system may be unable to put 3 safety seats in the rear seat

- even with only 2 safety seats installed there wouldn't be much seat space left for the older child

South Korea is now one of the biggest and best manufacturing hubs in the world, the vehicles coming out of there should be good and only getting better

KBB has a 3-year-old telluride with 45K miles fair market value at $38-42K, and the MSRP is $40K.

MSRP $44,625, yet all these are for sale with 20-40K miles for more than that.

I'm not certain yet, my original first pick was the explorer. But knowing I can get a bigger car with better features for the same price makes it hard to pick the Ford. My point is you're just flat out wrong about what you're saying.

Anecdotes are nice. Hyundai has dropped since the latest publish of this study, but it's still up there. Then again even the best new car has 133 problems per 100 vehicles, so there's that.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Sounds like you made your mind up already. Go buy one. I'm sure the high reving little six banger won't shake itself apart, the weak tranny designed for a passenger car won't drop gears, and the weak frame and suspension won't rattle itself apart if you try to tow anything heavier than a moped.

Also, good luck on your resale value. Kia/Hyundai are throw away cars. You'll never sell it and will lose your ass on a trade in.
Literally everything you states applies to cheap ass domestic brands like Chevy, FCA and Ford. Who gives af about resale? German cars are twice the price and still plummet in value in 5yrs with chit relability. Cars are not an asset, if you dont want to lose money then stick to riding a bike.

I looked at the palisade for my wife when it first came out but didn't love the drive of it. Ended up with a Cadillac XT6. Same amount of kids, and it fits them very well. It am still shocked at how well it rides

Cool story, but word of mouth travels for a reason, and it hasn't been good for hyundai kia, their cars are basically disposable with low grade parts and essential components that aren't even worth trying to repair. Like I'm sure they're fine for a lease or for the first few years, but that's it.

Its not just the leather. Trim, fit and finish, aesthetics, more sound deadening, badge prestiege - its all much better.

If you buy a Kia, you'll be stuck with a Kia. If you buy a Lexus or a luxury car, you'll be stuck with a luxury car.

I've seen that before but it got a lot of criticism. a problem can be as small as a loose knob on the console and is contributes the same as blowing a piston out of your engine block.

in general problems per 100 cars are up drastically in recent years probably because many of them are tech related.

$42K brand new for the version in the pic, hopefully I can get a lightly used one for sub 40 at the end of this year. Beats the fuk outta getting a tahoe, suburban, or expedition that's a couple years old with 50K miles for more like $50-60K.

My issue with Hyundai is the break and ride, I used to rent cars at Hertz when I would travel up state so my car didnt rack up miles and the Hyundais they gave me all had a rough ride, and bad break like stiff break. The drive was rough as hell.

I drove a veloster, a elantra and a sonata

To be fair Genesis probably has much better cars as it seems like they actually try to build something premium under that badge.

Genesis interiors are so nice too, I would have gone for a GV70 for the dash styling etc but ended up with a GV80 for the extra space
