Myself and others have given the pro-mask argument many times. There is nothing wrong with masks, they work. They do what they're designed to do.

If you argue that mask mandates don't work, we would say the issue isn't with the technology of masks. The issue is with compliance. And fairly so, a mask mandate isn't going to work without a way to ensure compliance. The problem isn't with the scientific rationale behind a mask. All the evidence to date points to masks actuallyreducingrisk, including pre-pandemic. And the review included two studies done post-Covid, and they, obviously, found that masks helped. Their pre-pandemic studies had low compliance with wearing masks, leading to the erroneous conclusions that masks are ineffective:

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/ar...l.pone.0240287

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/ar...l.pone.0029744

So, a HERP DERP obvious conclusion is that masks won't be anywhere near as effective if people aren't consistent with wearing them.

But the masks themselves, to varying degrees,do work. Ironically enough, the major reason why mask mandates may not be effective is because of the right-leaning cucks who squeal about having to wear a face-nappy and some imaginary impingement on their freedoms.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Yeah basically poor usage. Lots of people don't wear them properly or remove them indoors, etc. We already know the scientific principles and have the evidence that they work. People really misrepresented the paper. Guys like Makary should probably be banned from practicing medicine for their dishonesty. The guy knows what a confidence interval is. He was just lying to the public for clout. It's despicable.

I agree, place a moratorium on commenting in the public sphere if you're going to engage in this kind of blatant misrepresentation, along with all those people claiming Fauci released the virus oris somehow responsible for millions of deaths.

back in May of 2020 the CDC released the results of 14 individual studies conducted by various universities and medical institutions on the effectiveness of the mask in preventing the spread or preventing contracting the influenza virus, which is 220 nm's on average. The results were all the same. Neither did the mask slow down or prevent the spread of the virus nor did it prevent or slow down the infection rate of the virus. So if the masks do nothing for the influenza virus why would it be effective against a much smaller virus?

CDC- Volume 26, Number 5—May 2020
Nonpharmaceutical Measures for Pandemic Influenza in Nonhealthcare Settings—Personal Protective and Environmental Measures

“In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25)”

Explain why cases were at their highest when everyone was wearing one. How is that possible if it worked so well?

And would you still encourage someone to get the vaccine nowadays?

Most people weren't wearing N95s. Cases were at their highest during the omicron wave where the virus became extremely transmissible.

Yes, but if you have already had covid once or twice, it won't matter much. You're still better off vaccinating than not.

"masks work! it's poor usage and non-compliance, it's the right wingers! DRUMPH!!!"

you idiots are clueless and keep doubling down on stupid. you expect people to wear masks every minute of the day while they are outside or inside venues? you expect people to go to restaurants and eat with their masks on? play sports with masks on? masking 2 year olds who are being fussy?

point is there are a hundred different instances as to why a mask would come off which is why the whole debate is actually stupid. it's not grounded in reality or practicality.

"in this specific environment, with these specific variables, controlled for x, y and z, when mars, venus, earth and 10 other stars align, masks show a 10% benefit with a wide interval that goes into the negatives".

is basically what is being argued. what relevance does this have in reality? just lol. i'm sure if we waste more money on running studies on failed interventions we'd find 1 or 2 more flawed studies that "proves" our world view! If this was any other medical intervention, it would be scrapped. but because it is so politicized and people want to believe they work so badly we're still actually having this debate.

all of this doesn't even touch on the downsides of it either.

if you want to be extremely optimistic, at BEST it will delay covid infection because you can't mask forever (well unless you are a mask-cel that lives in your mom's basement)

There in no reason to get the jab present day.

I've had the Rona twice, and you're claiming I should still get the jab?

Just noticing you did it again. You claim 14 studies then post the quote that says 10.

This. natural immunity is not better than vaccinated immunity.

Vaccine-induced immunity is much more consistent, since if you vaccinate 100 people you will get a similar level of antibodies. Since COVID is such a strange virus with high amounts of asymptomatic cases these will produce a low antibody response in contrast to a more serious case. So a low consistency rate among the infected. Even the best natural responses are not better than the vaccine responses.

The mRNA vaccines are a revolution in biotechnology. Attenuated virus vaccines give large and non-specific protection, but the new mRNA vaccines give a highly focused and effective response to specific targets like the spike protein of COVID. They also don't cause direct damage like the virus itself would.

So, get the vaccine. It's a great breakthrough and highly specific to whatever it is vaccinating against.
Back off, Warchild.

Natural could be better too. It varies. It's just a crapshoot. The fact that many here have had covid twice speaks volumes about the quality of their first antibodies lol. But then again, many vaccinated also got covid multiple times. So, meh. Truth is the virus just mutates really fast. There are really no great solutions rn, but vaccines are the best tools we have.
