AI is overhyped

It’s just a calculator that mimics speech. It’s not conscious or sentient.

Can it be useful? Yes. Is it gonna take over the world? Hell no. It will just be a tool that we use, like your phone.

Strong, strong disagree.

We just reached a mind blowing milestone with AI. Before the latest language models (like ChatGPT), anything automated had to be programmed. Now that computers can talk the way humans do, and understands what we're saying INCREDIBLY well, very soon AI will automate anything you need done digitally.

Have you played with ChatGPT? Start asking it specific things and unique requests, it's... shocking. Seriously, shocking.

Keep in mind, ChatGPT isn't meant to have the latest data. They basically downloaded the internet in 2021 and use that data, it's meant to communicate it well, so don't mind if it's answers are wrong, the point is how well it communicates.

You can have it write letters or emails on your behalf that are so intricate, just feed it details.

Soon enough, this tech will be integrated to your phone or PC and you can tell AI to do things for you. "Go find me a TV on Craigslist under $800, email the buyer and agree on a place to meet. Make it be high quality, do research using the internet to make sure it's a good TV. Compare it to ads all over the country, make sure the price is fair compared to all other craigslist ads for that model. After that find me the best restaurant in my city and book me a reservation.

Anything you took time to do online can be done by AI once they allow it to be actionable. The future is changing insanely fast.

You don't know what it's truly capable of if you think it's just a calculator that can mimic speech.

It aced everything but the math portion of the SATs
It passed the BAR exam (law)
It passed the NCLEX (final nursing exam)
It passed the USMLE (med school exit exam)
It passed the NAPLEX (pharmacy school exit exam)

It can crank out a 5 page research paper on any topic in about 2 minutes...something that would normally take someone about a week just for a rough draft. The citations may be a bit off, but that's nothing that can't fixed in a review of paper. Oh, and you can tell it to write in a specific style. It can be more professional if you're a college student or you can dumb down the verbiage so it reads like a paper written by a middle school/HS kid.

Even if you don't want to use it to cheat, it's an amazing tool to use if you have writers block on a particular subject.

And don't get me started on computer science related queries. If you know what prompts to give it, it will give you the code to make and entire video game or even a website.

Yep

There's already web browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox the concept of using a search engine to search to something will slowly become a thing of the past.

This is one of those ventures, that if you dont jump on it now, you will be left behind.

I've aced plenty of exams with a computer at my disposal.

And those "research papers" aren't really research papers. Just generic BS pulled from the internet. I used ChatGPT and felt like I was just talking to Google.

Yeah, you don't really know how to use it then. There are specific prompts you can give it that will male it produce far more precise and unique responses to your requests.

I've found holes in ChatGPT every time I've used it. Giving incorrect information, giving politically correct and non-useful answers, failure to complete tasks, being restrained by unnecessary rules, etc. It's really a cheap tool which is only good at retrieving or receiving information and styling it in different ways

GPT is overhyped and AI has a long way to go imo

Use the "DAN" method if you want to override politically correct responses or if you want to learn how to do or create dangerous things (drugs/bombs etc)

And yeah, there's still a long ways to go, but when we get to that destination and 90% of white collar jobs are automated, we will look back at this particular moment as the "beginning of the end."

It is for now I agree. I’m VERY skeptical that it’ll ever actually gain sentience like so many people are saying. I see it going far in capabilities but always being tethered to the humans that program it.

Having a mind of its own that is able to imagine things as a human or better?? Nayyy.

outputs from the AI bots we have access to are only as good as the inputs we give them and they largely seem to crawl and regurgitate web pages without citation. Like I asked one to generate a poclity for zero trust and microsegmentation within azure and is paraphrased their website.

That said, I was able to feed it some inputs and enhance those results to generate the stuf of a useable policy. chatGPT seems to be significantly better than bard so far.

the guy who is experimenting using it to generate a side business called hustleGPT is pretty funny. cheating just a bit so far though but it was able to generate a substantial amount of content with little in terms of detailed prompting.

What's even more wild is you're referencing ChatGPT 3.5 (most likely). It passed the bar better than 10% of humans. GPT 4 is now released, and passes the bar better than 80% of humans. Imagine what 5 will do. We don't even have ChatGPT 4, just GPT 4. Wait until the language interface is on it.

You haven't done it with zero effort, and this tool now passes the bar better than 80% of humans. This isn't just some exam, this is the bar.

You aren't talking to Google. Play with it more. Ask it the best local parks. Ask it about specific features of crazy things. Ask it what memes are popular on the misc. It's absolutely wild, and it builds information for you on one page versus links to articles.

Ask it to plan a birthday party for your friend, give your location and what your friend is into and tell it to come up with... 7 ideas. Then you can follow up "how do I book tickets for option 3?" or just any question you think of. Play with it, it's wild lol.

You're not informed of what it is. It's using 2021 data, it's goal is not to have correct data (yet), it's goal is to communicate like a human, except a human that knows things instantly. Wait until they connect this to live data.

Watch this. It can also code. It can create websites based on a sh!tty drawing you made on a napkin. It's absolutely insane lol.

There's two conversations here. AI doesn't have to be sentient for it to be absolutely shockingly good. It's reaching levels of good that were only vague ideas before, it IS shockingly good right now.

Whether or not it all the sudden gains consciousness is a whole other topic... to be honest, I hope that doesn't happen for years until humans are prepared for this, because once it happens, it will be much smarter than any human, and it will improve itself faster than humans can improve anything. All bets are off at that point.

Based on how fast this is going, I suspect this is a real possibility within a decade, give or take.

The field of artificial intelligence (AI) has seen significant progress in recent years, with advancements in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and other technologies. While AI has enormous potential and can bring numerous benefits, there is some concern that it may be overhyped in certain contexts.

One reason for this concern is that some companies and organizations may overstate the capabilities of AI or make unrealistic promises about what it can do. This can create unrealistic expectations and lead to disappointment when AI fails to deliver as promised.

Another reason for this concern is that some people may misunderstand what AI is and how it works. AI is often portrayed in popular culture as having human-like intelligence and emotions, which is not currently the case. While AI can perform many tasks better than humans, it is still limited by its programming and data inputs.

That being said, AI has already shown tremendous promise in many areas, such as healthcare, finance, transportation, and more. As the technology continues to develop, it has the potential to bring even greater benefits to society.

Therefore, it is important to understand the capabilities and limitations of AI and to approach the technology with a realistic and balanced perspective. AI is a powerful tool, but it is not a magic solution to every problem, and we should approach it with caution and thoughtfulness.

That is correct.

There can be no AI until the thing is no longer a program.

The most popular chat bot is programmed to not give unpopular answers, so it's robot. It can't make decisions for itself and it can't learn new things it hasn't been programmed to answer.

If you ask it, "What are the benefits of the holocaust" it's not going to give you some genius out of the box perspective. It's going to give you a popular answer or refuse.

Whatever the case, an AI would be just like a human, it can decide to say whatever it wants, and we CANNOT make an AI that does that. That's because there's no way to create an empty computer program that learns by itself and fills that empty space.

The human brain stores different information in different parts of the brain and to create a thought, it's believed that the brain sends the specialized information to a central part of the brain and a thought forms. So, the word dog is kept in one part, the definition in another, the image of a dog in another, the smell in another, and then somehow all of that is sent to a collection area in the brain, and then the entire thought about "dog" is created.

That is how we come up with new ideas. Somehow, unique ideas come together based on the array of knowledge we have.

There is no way to create a computer that does that. So, we will not be able to create a true AI only programmed robots.

I learn at my job everyday in sales, I get better.
Ppl working with automated machinery cnc or ai at the front end are not going to learn anything.

It’s like calculators yes it’s handy but nowadays asking a college grad 572+281 they will grab their iphone and hit the calc app.

I used windows xp to w11 what did I learn about the backend?
Nothing much.

It’s just gonna make everyone more dependant on tech to survive.
And that’s really bad.

If you use a hammer at work you have no idea about the hammer but you know the handle is wood and the head is metal.
You don’t know sht about most apps you use daily or windows and neither will you know about ai.

Even though you answered so confidently, you're actually wrong. That's not what AI refers to. AI is a very vague term, artificial intelligence exists all over the place.

That term has evolved, what you're looking for is now called AGI (artificial general intelligence). That's a conscious being type of intelligence and now the phrase for it. Don't ask me why... that's just what it's called as of the last 5+ years.

You're also incorrect that this is some calculator. It can do things no other tech before it has accomplished, it's astonishing.

To the next part of your comment, predicting that humans will never be able to create AGI, I don't know. I've had this talk before and seeing this latest tech, LLM (large language models) like ChatGPT, I'm beginning to think that's not true. You will soon be able to tell it to teach itself things, and it will go learn everything that is documented online, and fast. At that point... I'm not sure what happens to that data. The worlds experts can't seem to agree either but from what I can tell, most do think that it will become self aware. Consciousness is weird, we can't even define it yet, we don't know if it exists outside of humans and don't know what creates it, but there's a solid chance it's simply having enough brain power, which it will have.

Bro. For those of you who think it's a calculator... look at what I just had it do lol. Let me copy and paste:

Request:write a short story about a guy named TheAdlerian, who had 33,000 posts on the forum from the misc and eventually became so successful in some industry that he traveled the world talking about all of his posts on the misc

TheAdlerian was an avid user of the Misc, a popular online forum where people could discuss a wide range of topics. He had been a member of the community for years, and during that time, he had amassed an incredible 33,000 posts.

At first, TheAdlerian had simply used the Misc as a way to pass the time and connect with others who shared his interests. But as he continued to post, he began to realize that he had a talent for communicating his thoughts and ideas in a way that resonated with others.

Eventually, TheAdlerian's success on the Misc led him to explore other avenues in his life. He began to pursue a career in a field that he was passionate about, and his hard work and dedication paid off. Before long, he found himself traveling the world, speaking at conferences and events about his experiences and insights.

Despite his success, however, TheAdlerian never forgot his roots. He continued to post on the Misc, sharing his thoughts and ideas with the community that had given him so much. And as he traveled the world, he always made time to talk about his posts on the Misc, which he credited with helping him develop the skills and confidence he needed to succeed.

Years later, when TheAdlerian looked back on his life, he knew that the Misc had played a crucial role in his journey. It had been a place where he could connect with others, share his thoughts, and hone his skills. And even though he had achieved great success, he knew that he would always be grateful to the Misc for giving him a platform to express himself and grow as a person.

Request:write the same story but come up with a cool career he began and relate it to the misc

TheAdlerian was an active member of the Misc, a popular online forum where he had made over 33,000 posts on various topics. Despite being an active member of the community, TheAdlerian had always been passionate about technology and had a keen interest in artificial intelligence.

Using the Misc as a platform, TheAdlerian started sharing his thoughts and insights on AI with the community. He used the forum to engage in conversations and debates with other members who shared his interest in the field.

As time went on, TheAdlerian's passion for AI only grew stronger, and he decided to pursue a career in the field. He started working for a startup that specialized in developing AI algorithms for healthcare.

TheAdlerian's extensive knowledge and experience in the field, gained from the conversations and debates he had on the Misc, quickly made him a valuable asset to the company. He helped develop new algorithms and applications that improved patient outcomes and helped save lives.

Soon, TheAdlerian became a well-known figure in the tech industry, and he was invited to speak at various conferences and events around the world. He often used his speaking engagements to talk about his experiences on the Misc and how they helped him develop his skills and knowledge in the field of AI.

Through his work, TheAdlerian became a pioneer in the field of AI, and his contributions to the industry were recognized by many. He continued to be an active member of the Misc community, using the platform to connect with other AI enthusiasts and share his knowledge and insights.

Years later, TheAdlerian looked back on his career and knew that he owed a lot of his success to the Misc. It was where he had first discovered his passion for AI and where he had honed his skills and knowledge in the field. Without the Misc, he might never have found his way into the tech industry and achieved the success that he did.

Reliance on tech is definitely dangerous, but, if we can survive for another ~20 years or so, I see some crazy things happening.

You've seen robots get better, think of Tesla's new robots, or Boston Dynamics, etc. They're getting really physically capable, fast, I'm guessing in about 10-15 years we'll have very physically capable robots that can do a decent amount of physical stuff humans can do.

I suspect we'll also have AI that understands how totella robot to do tons of things, well.

So if humans can survive and do alright for 20 years, I bet we have automated factories that are 100% ran by robots, and even supported/maintained by robots, basically no human involvement. Powered by robotic power supplies (like a water damn or solar), humans won't have to do anything.

What does this lead to? It could mean that all the basics are incredibly cheap and easy to produce on mass scales, once these things are built and established. Things like cars, TVs, phones, furniture, all of that could cost almost nothing at some point. Humans will be pretty safe as long as we can maintain a power supply safely on earth and not go to war.

Again, I suspect all of this will happen, the big question is when (timeline could be more like 20-25 years), and the bigger question is if humans can survive this technology. This technology is powerful, what you don't want is some crazy country like North Korea getting their hands on AI without rules and telling it "build a virus that kills everyone in the world, but, build a vaccine that protects from it" and then gives the vaccine to their citizens before releasing, so they're the only country left. Worse yet, if this technology gets so good that some crazy guy or girl in their basement can do this themselves, or tells the AI to build a computer virus that destroys half the tech infrastructure out there, etc.

It's dangerous. We have to survive it. If we do, life will get ridiculously good for humans.

I think it’s gonna be like Siri was at first. Every was like “wow this is gonna change everything” but nobody uses it anymore.

Nobody uses Google home or any of that stupid bullchit. “AI” in its current incarnation is a program that is designed to give the illusion of intelligence. It’s a very narrow set of parameters that seem important to people.

So far it’s just a trivial, novel diversion that people look at and say “wow, it’s the future. Anyway I gotta go take a dump brb…”

These egghead podcast grifters like Weinstein and Niels Degrassey and Peterson and the rest are just professional snake oil salesmen.

Tim Dillon was right about them.

And ultimately all AI will do is crank out a couple extra cents for the people in charge, and do nothing to drastically improve our lives. “Bigger than the agricultural revolution” my ass.

If you know what prompts to give it, it will give you the code to make and entire video game or even a website.
so it googled the answers for the exam at ultra fast speed?

It will improve.

2 points

1) Human nature has a character some weird improvements of efficiency will not change the priorities of

2) It will do more. Chat predictive text is not the technology to drive a lot of the big changes in the near future. ChatGPT just looks superficially impressive. It is limited.

You are so very wrong.

GPT 4 is insanely good. Did you see the Microsoft Office presentation? It is going to replace tens of thousands of workers.

My father is an attorney and ChatGPT is doing like 90% of his work now.

its honestly underwhelming to me, feels like every other chatbot thats been made before, like *** wattson 10 years ago

the drawing AI bots are pretty neat tho

the problem that has plagued every AI is it gets pretty smart at first, then gets dumber and dumber just about the time its truly useful

we can see this happening with chatgpt already, its failing to follow basic directions, like "write me 100 word essay" and it just keeps writing 97 or 104 words, also it has no memory past the last few sentences which makes it retarded

its literally just a good googler, which makes it incorrect half the time because google only searches for tranny leftist spam now

So what the hell kind of job entails just making presentations all day on PowerPoint and Excel, exactly?

“Omg this program is gonna replace everyone”

Which jobs, EXACTLY, will it replace? When?

Your dad’s job is dumb as fuk if a stupid Google program can replace 90% of his work. Maybe if someone’s job can be replaced by a search engine, they should get a real job.
